#1 of Midnight

A female teen with only a few months left of high school falls into an intimate relationship with an umbreon on the school's grounds. She has to juggle this and high school itself, all while finding herself as a person. Playing it safe is key.

This story was the first I've ever written. I've edited it a lot since the initial release but kept its original structure.

Chapter 19

"Ugh..." Julie shoved the blanket off of her and sat up in her bed. She had to mentally prepare herself to get ready for school. It was Monday, so she naturally hated this morning more than any other.

Julie went to her restroom to the left of her bed. Upon looking in the mirror, her hazel-colored eyes instantly remarked on her hair. It was a mess, tangled quite a bit, and she needed to straighten it in a few areas, which she was able to do relatively quickly. Her wavy brown hair flowed down to her upper back and contained blonde highlights to complement it.

Julie checked the time on her cell phone. It was 5:30 a.m. She had to be at her first class in an hour.

Swiftly, she slipped into white knee-high socks, skinny blue jeans, and a white t-shirt. Had she been given more time, Julie would have chosen something showier to wear. She quietly made her way downstairs as her mother was still asleep and took a fruit bar from off the kitchen table that would hold her off until lunch. Julie trained herself to eat less when she lost weight and slimmed herself a few months ago.

Julie slung her gray backpack over her shoulder and slipped into dark blue boots, then headed out the front door and into Goldenrod City while speed eating her bar. The weather was cool, but Julie's school was close, so it wouldn't affect her much. She didn't have to endure any of this for much longer, anyway. Julie was only a few months away from graduating at eighteen. She could finally leave the idiots at Ecruteak High behind.

She would much rather spend her time with pokémon, and speaking of pokémon, it brought her to think of Midnight, the school's umbreon. He had a generic name, but that's what happens when the school's faculty is in charge of that sort of thing. Julie usually saw him roaming the halls on her way to classes at times, and they'd gotten close over the past year. She often held and gave him as much affection as possible, occasionally bringing him a treat. Oddly enough, Julie was looking forward to seeing Midnight more than she would anyone else. To her, he provided the best company whenever she had the chance to be around him. It was the only thing that made her sad to be leaving the school so soon.

Julie strolled down the sidewalk populated immensely with other trainers, pokémon, and students, now a mile from her two-story home amid Goldenrod City. It's a sprawling metropolis and the largest city in the region. Buildings of all sizes encompassed her. It would take her roughly twenty minutes to reach the city's exit on foot, and her school was up north in the next one. The halfway point to Goldenrod's exit would be the Magnet Train Station, which she wasn't far from.

Now away from the commotion, Julie had two routes to pass before reaching Ecruteak City. She was currently walking through Route 35 on a dirt path surrounded by green pines. It also featured a small, fenced body of water.

Both it and Route 37 were short journeys, and she entered Ecruteak City within ten minutes. Ecruteak was a more quaint and traditional city with historical structures. The school was built here decades ago, but there was a chance it could be shut down in the distant future as residents complained it devalued the city. Julie walked through the open front doors of the old white two-story structure. The halls were busy and full of students as usual, and as she walked past everyone, she could feel eyes on her. It was nothing out of the ordinary. Julie was attractive and got them often. They were easy to ignore as long as the male or occasional female didn't try to talk to her.

Julie arrived at her faded blue locker a few rows down and unlocked it. She had Regional History as her first subject, so she grabbed the book for it along with her notebook and a pen. Midnight was currently nowhere to be found. He probably didn't like being out while the halls were so busy. It was understandable. It wasn't time to think about that, anyway. Julie cleared her mind and headed to her first class. Thankfully it was close by.

--

Roughly fifty minutes passed before her first class ended. She held onto a few new things about the region she currently lived in during the lesson: Johto.

On her way to return her history book to her locker, Julie noticed Midnight sitting in the general area where her locker was. Everyone passing by paid little to no mind to him. He wasn't an unusual sight, after all. Julie just couldn't help herself. He was adorable. She approached and kneeled in front of him. "Hey Midnight, what are you doing here?" Julie grinned and brushed her hand over his head. His ears folded as she did and perked again once she removed it. She figured Midnight was waiting for her, and she'd be a bit flattered if that were the case, as if it were a male that she liked. Julie brought up her hands to caress his cheeks.

Midnight thoroughly enjoyed it. Julie was the best human he knew among the entire campus.

"I need to get to my next class, cutie. See you afterward if you're here, okay?" She leaned down, kissed Midnight on his forehead, then stood to get the necessary book out of her locker for her next class. While walking off, she took a few more glances back at Midnight while he watched. If only Julie could take him home.
