The continuing adventures of n666's OCs Lukas and Venxia. The first entry in this series for 2025. It's always fun writing for these two.

Lukas and Venxia are off on the next leg of their adventure across the expansive Kildare Plains. When their caravan has an important item stolen on the road, Venxia has to get creative to get it back.

Chapter 14

As the caravan left the area around Harmeer, the rolling hills flattened. From his seat on his cart, Lukas watched as the land opened up, stretching out to the horizon.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so…flat.” Venxia said as she shielded her eyes with her hand.

Lukas chuckled. “I hear it’s the largest stretch of plains on the continent. They don’t even farm all of the plains, it’s just that big.”

“Hmmm…hey, what’s that?” She pointed to something far ahead on the road.

“What?” Lukas squinted as he tried to make it out. “I don’t know, but it looks like it’s across the entire road.”

“Should we be nervous?”

“Given what Aneirin is paying us as caravan guards,” he sighed, “probably.”

As the caravan grew closer they could see it was a large structure, complete with towers and a gate across the road. Aneirin brought the caravan to a stop and he jumped down from his wagon.

“What the hell is this?” He demanded of an official looking middle aged man flanked by a pair of armed guards.

“This is the Kline’s Gate toll station, and I am the Gate Master, Edouard.”

Aneirin ‘s eyes narrowed. “Since when is there a toll on this road?”

“It was a recent decision of Baron Chaufourier. With all the traffic making its way to and from Kline’s Gate, he thought it was only fair that travelers help cover the cost of the roads upkeep.”

“More like the upkeep of his wine cellars, I’d wager.” Aneirin grumbled. “And how much will I be expected to pay for the privilege of conducting my business?

“That depends, are all of these wagons and carts under your command?”

“They are.”

“Then let’s see…” Edouard quickly counted the vehicles and made some tabilations on his docket. “Let’s see, carry the one…Ah! The total for your caravan would be forty-five gold and eight silver pieces.

“Here I thought it was only the bandits I would have to worry about robbing me.”

Edouard had obviously heard worse since his position was created and continued on with a bureaucratic smile. “With the addition of the checkpoints and active patrols, the road is safer now than ever.”

“Ah yes, you wouldn’t want any competition, would you?” Aneirin smirked.

The polite smile on Edouard‘s face slipped away. “Watch your words, sir, the baron does not take kindly to having his policies questioned.”

“I’ll bet. Just stay here, you’ll get your toll, Gate Master.”

After paying the hefty toll, Aneirin was given a wooden token. It was branded on the top with the crest of Barron Milo Chaufourier, and below that a copper seal, noting the payment at the tollgate. Below that were spaces for additional seals from the checkpoints along the way.

“Please make sure to hold onto that.” Edouard said as he noted the transaction. “If it is lost there would be no way to verify you paid the toll.”

Aneirin raised an eyebrow. “And what would the punishment be?”

“A fine on top of paying the toll again at the least, the seizure of goods, vehicles, and/or livestock depending on how far along the road you are when caught without one. So like I said, hold onto it.”

Aneirin gripped the token tightly in his hand and turned back to the caravan. “Let's get going, I’d like to cover some ground before we make camp for the night.”

The Gate Master made a motion with his hands and the gate was unbarred and swung open for the caravan.

With the flat plains stretching out ahead of the caravan they made good time. They were stopped by a patrol, but after showing the toll token they were quickly waved through. Even though the road was being patrolled, Lukas kept an eye out, scanning the fields of long grass on either side of the road. When the sun was low in the western sky, Aneirin pulled the caravan to a stop and the crew began to set up camp.

Instead of bright fires, small braziers full of charcoal heated up their dinners. Wood was scarce out on the plains, so they had made sure to load up on fuel. Venxia summoned her glowing orb to make up for the loss of illumination. Lukas fried up bacon and potatoes over the brazier while Finbar helped himself to the abundant long grass.

“We might as well enjoy the bread while it’s fresh,” Venxia said as she unwrapped a small loaf of bread.

“Isn’t there a spell or something to preserve freshness?”

“Yes, but that is exclusive to divine magic, and Liuva has most of her magic tied up in healing and other support spells.”

“Ah, yeah, I guess she would have to. Even if we don’t get into any fights, someone is going to get hurt now and then.” He transferred the sizzling food to a pair of bowls. “Do you buy the Gate Master’s story that the roads are safe?”

Venxia took a bowl from Lukas. “He said they were safer, not completely safe. Besides that, I think the patrols are more so on the lookout for toll tokens than bandits.”

Lukas chuckled before starting to eat.

The night sky was beautiful. The stars shone brightly as the moon passed slowly overhead. Rechiar was on watch with nothing more than a candle-lantern for company. As he walked around the perimeter of the camp, his eyes kept being attracted to the celestial display. Looking at the position of the moon, he realized it was almost time to go wake Lukas for the next watch.

I hope he actually got some sleep and didn’t just test those wards all night with Venxia. He smirked before letting out a yawn. Ah, who am I kidding? It’s not like Liuva and I don't warm our sheets before turning in.

He smiled thinking about those warm sheets as he started to make his way to Lukas and Venxia’s tent. All of a sudden, something felt wrong. Rechiar froze in his tracks, the smile melting off his face. With one hand on his sword the other on his feeble lantern he started to scan the swaying grass that surrounded the camp.

Then he heard it, a creaking from one of the wagons. Rechiar drew his weapon and rushed towards the wagon. He spotted a dark shape climbing up into the back.

“Stop! Thief!” Rechiar bellowed out. “Wake up! Thieves! Bandits” she shouted as he rushed towards the wagon. Immediately there was noise as the caravan crew was woken from their slumber by the alarm.

Lukas Jumped out of the tent, dressed only in his leather leggings. Venxia was right behind him, wrapped up in a blanket as she summoned her light orb.

“Shit, there’s one by Aneirin’s wagon!” Lukas called out as he rushed to close the distance.

With their cover blown, the thieves quickly took off into the night, running into the high grass. Lukas tried to chase after him, but in his bare feet he didn’t get far. By the time he limped back to the camp proper everyone was up and investigating what the thieves had gotten away with.

“Are you alright?” Liuva asked as she saw Lukas’ limp.

“I’ll be ok, running barefoot wasn’t a good idea.” He did his best to sound stoic, but he was fooling no one.

The cleric sighed, but closed her eyes and channeled healing magic into her hands. She touched the young man’s arm and the pain faded instantly.

“Thanks.” Lukas said as he wiggled his toes. “What did they get away with?”

“So far, nothing more than a sack of potatoes,” Rechiar replied, “but we’re still checking.”

Suddenly there was a loud scream from Aneirin’s wagon. It was quickly followed by a series of swear words that would make a sailor blush. Lukas carefully made his way over to the wagon with the rest of the caravan.

“The toll token!” Aneirin spat out. “Those gods damned bastard thieves stole our proof we paid that ludicrous toll! I will gut them myself and leave their corpses for the vultures!”

Lukas hadn’t gotten the entire story at the toll gate, but he knew this was serious. “Then we’ll have to get it back.”

“You’re damn right about that!” Aneirin snapped, but directly afterwards he realized what he had done. “I’m sorry Lukas I-”

“It’s alright. Just let me get some boots on and I’ll find those thieves.”

“You mean we.” Venxia said, holding the blanket tightly against her body.

“We don’t know who many of them there are in the gang. Just you two may not be enough.” Liuva said, shaking her head. “We’ll come with you. Everyone else can stay here with the caravan in case they come back for some idiot reason.”

***

By the time the four adventurers were dressed and properly armed, the sky in the east was just starting to lighten. The rapid escape of the thieves had left a clear trail through the long grass, tracking them wasn’t all that difficult for quite a ways from the camp. When the trail faded, a little guidance from one of Liuva’s spells put them back on the trail. The sun was fully up when Venxia spotted a small column of smoke in the clear blue sky.

“Look! That must be their camp.” She said in a harsh whisper.

“We should approach carefully and quietly.” Lukas replied in a soft whisper as he drew his sword.

Liuva and Rechiar silently nodded as they too drew their weapons. As they drew close to the smoke the four of them were surprised to not see a camp, instead all they saw was a crude short chimney sticking out of the ground. After a quick inspection of the area they found a heavy door set into the ground and several other small holes that went straight down.

“What the hell is this?” Rechiar whispered as he tried to make sense of it.

“They must have dug out their hideout. It makes sense, wood is scarce and stone would require a mason. Digging a hole was cheap. Not to mention in this tall grass a structure would stand out at quite a distance.” Liuva replied softly. “Clever, but also dangerous. We have no idea what we would be running into if we rushed through that door.”

“We could block the chimney and smoke them out.” Lukas suggested.

“Perhaps, but there could still be ten or more people in there.” Venxia shook her head. “I can handle a lot with my magic, but I want to know what we are getting into.”

“We need more information, and we need it quickly. Who knows if another patrol won’t come by and ask to see the token?” Rechiar rubbed his chin as he racked his brain for a plan.

Venxia looked at the ground around the door and chimney. As she tried to think up a plan she saw an insect buzz around the door before it flew down one of the air shafts. Venxia smiled as she got an idea.

“We need a scout, someone to get inside and see what it’s like down there and how many people we’ll be dealing with.”

“Yes, and you have some insight on that?” Liuva asked

“Yeah I just need to use my, ah, polymorph magic.”

Lukas snapped his attention to Venxia, he couldn’t say anything but his expression said enough. Venxia smiled softly at him before she explained her plan.

“If I were to shrink down small, very small, I could slip down one of those air shafts and sneak around the cellar they dug and then report back.”

“You would have to be pretty small.” Rechiar said, looking between the closest shaft and Venxia.

“I’m aware, what if I took the shape of a fairy? That way I could have wings to fly in and out easily, not to mention I wouldn’t have to rely on tiny legs to get around.

“Can you do that?” Lukas was watching his words to not give away his partner’s true abilities.

“I should be able to, with the proper use of the polymorph spell.”

“That is powerful magic, but if you can wield it the plan otherwise seems sound.”

“So do you just snap your fingers and poof?” Rechiar asked.

Venxia wasn’t sure what was more amusing, the man’s question or the cleric’s expression. Either way she stifled a laugh.

“Just give me a moment to focus.” She said before closing her eyes and breathing deeply.

Venxia would still be using magic, there was only so far she could shrink or grow without it, but she would be relying on her natural abilities to change her shape. At first nothing happened, then she started to shrink. It was subtle at first, her head slowly lowering but before they knew it she was the same height as Lukas. Her clothing became loose and baggy, as she was losing more than just her height. Then after a heartbeat she seemed to vanish. Her clothes fell to the ground in a pile. Even Lukas was left stunned until he saw something moving around inside Venxia’s blouse. He bent down and helped the now fairy sized Venxia find her way out.

She popped out of the collar of her blouse, now standing only about thirty centimeters tall. Venxia appeared mostly human, apart from the green hair, red horns, twin red spade tipped tails, and bright red butterfly wings. As Lukas looked closely he could also see her breasts, rather full relative to her height, were topped with tinny lipples, though from a distance it was hard to tell they weren't nipples.

Rechiar stared slack jawed at fairy Venxia, at least until Liuvasmacked the back of his head and turned his back, cheeks quite red with embarrassment. Venxia couldn’t help letting out a high pitched giggle before she fluttered her wings and flew up level with Lukas’ face.

“Please, be careful, it wouldn’t take much to hurt you like this.”

“True, but I’m a lot harder to hit.” she winked. “Can I have a kiss for luck?”

Lukas was unsure exactly how to kiss a tiny Venxia, so he just leaned forward with his lips out. Venxia pressed her face up gently against his lips before fluttering away towards an air shaft.

Venxia popped out of the shaft into an earthen tunnel. Wide spaced candles in improvised sconces dimly lit the low ceiling passageway. She hovered and listened for any sound. She made out some faint talking coming from her left so she carefully flew towards the sound, making note of the layout of the hideout. She came across a dirty old blanket hung across a doorway like a curtain. She flew up to the top and peered over the curtain into a small room.

It was brighter in the room than the tunnel, there was an oil lamp on a simple wooden table that had started its life as a crate. A fire burned in the crude fireplace made of field stones and mud. Gathered around the table were a trio of men, dressed in dark stained clothing. They didn’t sound overly happy either.

“I still can’t believe you got us spotted, Bruno, I was just slipping into a wagon when the shouting began.”

“Shut up, Alexis! That bastard guard just got lucky!.”

“Thanks to you, all I got was a sack of potatoes for my trouble!” Alexis kicked the bag by his feet.

“Shut it,” the third one said, “you both know what we were after, and we got it.” He tapped the token laying on the table. “The last time Jean-Loup dropped by he was none too happy with the amount of tokens we could hand over, remember? As long as we get that, we’ll keep our boss happy. And besides, we could use some potatoes, we’re running low on food.”

“Come on, Louis, I hate this job, we all do. I’d rather be in a city than out on the road like a simple highwayman.”

“And why do they care more about a stupid piece of wood than money or goods?” Bruno pointed to the token.

“You really are a simpleton, no wonder I’m stuck out here with you.” Louis shook his head. “It doesn’t take a scholar to figure this out. It’s not about the value of the token, though given what that jerk of a baron is charging they are worth something. No, these are tools to help get shipments through his lands without getting stopped and inspected.”

So that’s why they grabbed the token! But who are they working for? Venxia wondered. I’ll worry about that later, I better see if there’s anyone else holed up in here.

With that, she fluttered away back down the tunnel. There wasn’t much more to the underground hideout, just two more rooms and no one in either of them. Venxia made her way back up the nearest air shaft. At first she didn’t see everyone else, but as she flew higher, she saw they were laying down low in the high grass. Venxia quickly flew down to them. As she got closer she saw someone had put a blindfold over Rechiar’s eyes. She suppressed a laugh as she landed on Lukas’ outstretched hand.

“It looks like it’s just three of them in there. They have three rooms down there and when I left they were all in the room with the fire. I guess it’s their kitchen.”

“Four against three are good odds.” Rechiar said softly, “but I still don’t like the idea of rushing in there.”

“I agree.” Lukas said, rubbing his chin with his free hand. “What if we get them to run out and we ambush them?”

“That would be preferable,” Liuva nodded, “what are you thinking? Blocking the chimney?”

“I have a better idea.” The small fairy wore a big smile. “I’ll smoke them out, you three just be ready at the door.”

“Venxia…” Lukas said with obvious concern.

“I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”

“May the Light protect you.” Liuva said softly.

Venxia nodded before flying away and back down one of the air shafts. Lukas got up as Liuva pulled the blindfold off of Rechiar. The three of them took up positions in front of the door set in the ground. Rechiar in the front with Lukas and Liuva on either side. The remained quiet, waiting on Venxia’s magic to take effect. It felt like the time stretched on forever, but in reality it was only a few minutes at most.

Suddenly there was a sound like a muffled pop. The column of smoke coming from the chimney suddenly erupted, the white smoke turning an almost green color. Soon green smoke was pouring out the other air shafts. Lukas could hear shouting, cursing and coughing coming from the door before it was thrown open. Green smoke billowed out as the three thieves stumbled out.

They didn’t need to do much to subdue the trio, as they fell to the ground, coughing and gasping for air. Lukas had enough mercy to help drag them away from the smoke and Liuva quickly bound their hands with some rope.

“Venxia? Where are you?” He called out.

“Right here!” she replied back in her high-pitched voice.

Venxia flew out of the smoke, her head surrounded by what looked like a soap bubble. Lukas let out a soft sigh of relief. The fairy landed on his shoulder, smiling widely.

“I told you I’d smoke them out.” She smirked.

Lukas gently patted her head. “I never doubted you.”

She gave her lover a tiny kiss on the cheek. “I’m going to change back and get dressed. If any of those bastards try to watch, give them a good tap, Liuva.”

The cleric smacked her mace against her hand in response. Louis, Alexis, and Bruno suddenly found the ground very interesting. As did Rechiar.

Lukas chuckled as he carried Venxia back to where he had left her clothes neatly folded.

“Hey,” she whispered into his ear, “later tonight do you want to give this form a try?”

Lukas glanced back over to the others before he simply nodded.

Venxia flew down beside her clothes and closed her eyes. She released the spell and her body started to grow in size. As she was growing, Venxia shifted back to her standard human form, hair shifting to red, lipples becoming ordinary nipples, tails absorbing back into her body. The last thing to go were her wings. They were left as just small little wings that were little more than decorations as she reached her normal height. She gave the butterfly wings a few more flaps before they stared to shrink back into her shoulder blades.

With her transformation complete she quickly started to get dressed.

“Alright,” Venxia said as she adjusted her bodice, “Let’s go see what else they have in that hideout besides our toll token.”

“You two can go in, we’ll keep an eye on these three.” Rechiar said, looking down at the prisoners.

The magical smoke had dissipated by then, so Lukas and Venxia had no issues entering the underground hideout. Along with the token they found a handful of items that must have been raided from other caravans. Lukas packed them up in a small crate and they headed out.

“There wasn’t much in there, but we got the token back.” Venxia said as she held up the valuable piece of wood. “We better get back to the caravan before we lose any more daylight.

The other three nodded and they set off for the camp with the three prisoners in tow. Not having to carefully track, they made better time on the way back. In their absence the camp had been packed up so they were ready to go. Aneirin came rushing over.

“Did you get it?” Venxia handed over the toll token. “Thank the gods!” He immediately hung it around his neck. “It’s staying here until we reach Kline’s Gate.”

“Thanks for getting our gear packed up.” Lukas said with a nod.

“It was nothing, but what’s in that crate?”

“Just a few bits and bobs we found in their hideout.”

“Load it on one of the wagons along with these three idiots. We’ll drop them off at the first checkpoint and let the Baron's men deal with them.” Aneirin turned to address the rest of the caravan, “Alright! Let's get ready to move out! I want to put in as many miles as we can before sunset!”

By midday the caravan reached the first checkpoint. The official there was very interested in the trio that had been reportedly stealing the toll tokens. Aneirin gladly turned them over along with the box of stolen goods, well apart from a single golden bracelet the merchant was sure would cover the cost of the toll.

They continued on, only passing by other merchant caravans until the sun dipped low. Aneirin pushed things later than he normally would before finally being forced to stop for the day. Lukas and Venxia worked quickly in the dying light to get their tent set up. The entire time they were on the road they had been thinking about their plans for the evening. The pair didn’t even bother to light the brazier, instead they quickly ate a cold meal of bread, cheese, and some fresh fruit before it went bad.

Lukas began the ritual to ward their tent, while Venxia made sure Finbar would be good for the night.

Once all that was completed, they slipped into their tent. Venxia cast a simple light spell, barely brighter than a candle to illuminate the inside of the tent. After all, half the fun is seeing what they were doing.

Lukas pulled Venxia down on top of him and they pressed their lips together in a long slow kiss. After the long day this was exactly what they needed. Before long hands were pulling at clothing and boots were being pushed off. They shifted on the bedrolls as more clothing was removed until both of them were fully nude in the dim light. Venxia slowly pulled away from the kiss and smiled down at Lukas.

“Are you ready?” She asked in a soft whisper.

When Lukas nodded she began. At first it was simple, the familiar twin tails and the smiling lipples appeared. Venxia’s red hair shifted to long green tentacles and a small pair of red horns pushed their way out. She opened her eyes, the golden color almost glowing in the low light as she smiled. Then she started to shrink. There was only so far Venxia’s shapeshifting could go in adjusting her size, that was when her magic took over. She quickly reduced in size while retaining all her proportions until she was no more than thirty centimeters tall, easily able to stand on top of Lukas.

“I guess this is what it was like for you when we tried out that ring. She giggled.

From her back a beautiful pair of green and red butterfly wings emerged. Once they were fully formed, she fluted over to Lukas’ head and gave his chin a tiny kiss. Very gently, Lukas wrapped his fingers around her body and lifted her up to his lips. As gentle as he was, he was in essence kissing her entire face at once. Not that Venxia seemed to mind.

She giggled as she returned the kiss. Lukas shifted down slightly and kissed across both her breasts and lipples at once. Still giggling, Venxia wiggled out of Lukas’ grasp and fluted down his body to his cock. Unlike he normally would while making love to Venxia, his cock was in its normal shape and size. Of course, to a fairy it was beyond huge. She ran her tiny hands over the surface, making Lukas shiver slightly.

With his shaft now standing at full attention, Venxia started to have some real fun. She slid her body up and down the shaft, spinning around it, grinding. She was practically pole dancing with his shaft. Lukas was enjoying both the show and the sensations. As he watched Venxia climbed up his shaft like it was a tree until she reached the top. She pressed her lips against the glans and started to kiss, leaving a trail to the very tip.

Lukas let out a long sigh and closed his eyes. However they quickly snapped back open as he gasped. Looking down he saw Venxia with her mouth over his urethra. Her tongue was licking around the rim and it was sending tingles right up his spine. He could feel her giggle at his reaction. She slowly pulled away before teasing the opening with her tiny hand. As small as she was, Lukas could see the mischievous grin on her face.

Slowly she inserted her hand. Lukas bit his lip as he tried to stifle a moan. He couldn't stop it, not once she slipped in past her wrist. Lukas gripped the bedroll tightly as her arm continued to sink down into his cock. Venxia knew what this always did to him, but it was fun getting hands on with it for once. With her arm fully inserted she wiggled her fingers slightly. She had Lukas twitching on the bedroll. Agonizingly slowly she pulled her hand back out. She slid back down the shaft and hugged it with her entire body.

Using her wings to aid her, she stroked the shaft with her entire body. Venxia could feel Lukas’ shaft starting to twitch and quiver from her ministrations. Lukas couldn’t look away, he bit his lip trying to hold back but ultimately it was no use. As Venxia slid up the shaft one final time he erupted. It hit her square in the face, and the force knocked her up into the air where she was hit with followup shots. It was enough to interfere with her wings and she crashed down onto Lukas’ thighs.

“Are you alright?” Lukas panted as he tried to sit up.

Venxia just laughed as she tried to wipe enough off her face to see again. “Gods, I knew it would be a lot at this size, but not that it would hit me so hard.”

Knowing that Venxia was ok, Lukas was able to laugh a little at the situation. Once she could stop giggling, She used a little magic to clean up the mess from her body and the rest of the tent. She then fluttered back up into the air.

“Lay back down for me, please.”

Lukas did as she asked, unsure what she was planning next. He could, however, make out the tiny little smirk on her face as she hovered above him. Venxia flew down and teased his lips with tinny kisses from both her mouth and lipples. Then she pulled back and winked at her lover before turning sideways and straddling his lips.

After grinding a bit against his closed mouth, Lukas got the hint. He parted his lips ever so slightly and slipped out the tip of his tongue. Venxia let out a high pitched whine as she felt the warm moist tongue press up against her sex. Lukas reached up and gently held her as he started to tentatively move his tongue. He felt her body spasm from a mini climax, but given the way she pushed back down against Lukas’ tongue, he knew Venxia wasn’t done yet.

Very carefully Lukas started to push the tip of his tongue into her slit. He was aware of her ability to stretch wider when in a more normal size, and wasn’t surprised when Venxia did just that. She was moaning constantly as the huge insertion wiggled its way into her tiny body. Her eyes were shut tightly as she rode Lukas’ tongue, unable to think about anything else. When she finally hit her squeal was so loud it almost hurt Lukas’ ears. After going stiff as a board she slipped out of his supporting hand and collapsed onto Lukas’ face. He chuckled slightly but stopped when the light spell ended making the tent completely dark.

Wow…She actually passed out, and on my face no less. I’ll just give her a few to recover before I wake her up.

However, Lukas was tired too and in the dark tent he ended up passing out with Venxia still fairy sized on his face.

***

As the sun rose in the east and the horizon started to brighten, Venxia stirred in her tent. She snuggled up against what her drowsy mind thought was a pillow. It was, however, Lukas’ nose. The resulting sneeze woke the both of them up in short order.

“Gods! Eww!” Venxia had caught herself from falling with her tiny wings.

Lukas whipped his nose on the back of his hand. “I’m sorry, I couldn’t help it.”

“Maybe it wasn’t the best place to spend the night, though it was nice and warm.” She admitted sheepishly.

After cleaning up with a spell, Venxia started to grow, quickly reaching her normal size and taking on her preferred form. She cuddled up against Lukas, they didn’t need to get up as Aneirin hadn’t rung the bell yet.

“That was an interesting night.” Lukas smiled softly as he pulled her close. “Usually you get to be the big one.”

Venxia chuckled. “It was a change of pace for sure. I do want to keep things interesting.”

“I don’t think there would ever be such a thing as boring sex with you.” Lukas leaned in and kissed her gently.

***

The sun was barely up above the horizon and the caravan was on its way. Finbar seemed especially energetic as he was impatient to get up to speed.

“Must be the local grass.” Lukas smirked as he actually had to hold Finbar back for once.

“Or maybe he wants to make up for the time we lost yesterday.” Venxia shook her head. “I think there is a lot more to our overpriced gelding than appeared when we first hooked him up to a wagon.”

“I knew he would grow on you.”

Venxia just rolled her eyes and then looked out over the endless Kildare Plains. “I was thinking over breakfast just how far we’ve traveled from home.”

“At this point it’s further than I traveled on my first adventure. It’s definitely better with a companion though.”

Venxia turned towards him and smiled. “I don’t know for sure if the University of Rebondao will actually have the information we need, but I don’t think I would regret this journey if it is a dead end.”

“I know I won’t. Besides, it would just mean more adventures for the two of us anyway.” Finbar snorted loudly. “Alright, the three of us.”

Venxia laughed as they continued down the road.
