It happened slowly one night, a bit of tipsy fun gone awry. Science and magic collided in a world that was not ready for the intricacies of what could not be easily explained, but Vanessa and Todd didn't care about any of that as they kissed and fucked their Saturday night. Long-time lovers, they screwed with the lights off, knowing the ins and outs of each other's bodies more intimately than anything else, lips fumbling and coming together in giggling, clumsy lust.
They loved one another repeatedly as Todd grunted and drove into her, his thrusts short and erratic with the tentative swell of climax simmering close to a drunken psyche. His orgasm was spent inside her too rapidly but neither of them cared as they slumped, exhausted, into the pillows, sleeping coming to claim them even as the changes began. They'd never find out whether it was the drink they'd consumed, some kind of spell, or something that they'd never even heard of but their lives were about to change forever as whispering tendrils of green magic wrapped around them.
Slowly, so slowly, Vanessa's naked breasts, rising and falling gently in sleep, sank down into her body as if they had never been, nipples flattening into something distinctly male. Her legs bulged with muscle instead of a feminine layer of fat and her hips narrowed, flesh slinking over bone as if it was played there by a crafter's hand on a pot to be modelled. And yet she was to become something more handsome than that still as red fur covered her, a vulpine coat, and she turned her new muzzle, still forming its shape, into the pillows with a sleepy groan.
“Todd..."
He was not with any waking reality either, however, as his body changed without his will or consent too, cock retracting, feminine folds forming... Oh, he would only come to know how well he could love and adore that change later on, much later on, but for that moment alone he was deep in sleep, shoulders slimming down and his hair falling away in lieu of a red coat of fur that covered his entire body, much as it did for Vanessa.
Transformative sleep would come to light in fresh research in due course but the changing humans were prey to a greater will as the night wore on and their bodies took on new forms. Perhaps, even so, the forms that they were always meant to have...
*
“What the hell?"
Sitting bolt upright in a bed that was suddenly unfamiliar to him the next morning, Vanessa gasped and panted, chest rising and falling rapidly. But Vanessa had no breasts there anymore either, telling a tale that had taken place without his consent, and the russet fur, struck down the front with white, did not ring of any skin he'd ever tanned in the past, streaking like a bolt to the bathroom while Todd came to wakefulness herself. Todd's shriek could have woken the dead and still, she stared down at her body without truly understanding what had happened. Had they had Vanessa's mother's dog there that night, to have so much red hair everywhere? What was wrong? Why wasn't her body what it had been? She, Todd, most certainly, was no longer the 'he' that she had been, a dog the least of her worries.
Where was Vanessa? Just what was going on? Blinking rapidly, Todd caught a glimpse of something between her legs that really, really shouldn't have been there, eyes wide and strained and panting as blood roared in her ears.
No...
_ _
But yes. It had happened and Todd was going to have to deal with it as her paws frantically slapped her body, finding new curves and the rise of tits that hadn't even come to her notice as yet, lips parted in a strangled whimper. Not even just a fox – she was a fucking vixen! What the hell?
It didn't seem natural for curse words to pass the barrier of vulpine lips, so sweetly formed, however, and she whined and hugged her arms around her chest, tail curling in around her leg at the same time. Vanessa cried and whimpered from the bathroom but Todd would only come to see just what had happened to her partner when Vanessa finally unlocked the damn bathroom door and let Todd in, of course. Gender swapped and species shifted, there was nothing the couple could do but call out support to one another through the sobs and the howls, tensions strained and frayed at the very worst of times. They could do no more, their world tilted askew, gender identify broken and shattered and crushed down into the dust.
“What's happened?" Todd said out loud to no one. “Why... Vanessa? Vanessa, what's happened? Vanessa, come... V..." Todd even tried her little nickname, the two of them using their initials sometimes out of sheer laziness combined with a little cuteness. “V, Come out here, for god's sake, I need you!"
Vanessa's whimpers carried on, however, and Todd's fingers pressed to her lips and muzzle, although it was as if she didn't know where to put them with the shape of it. There was no comfortable spot as her head pounded and she gulped, striving to calm herself to no avail.
Everything was different and Todd managed to just about lean against the door of the en-suite bathroom, trying not to look even as the mirror on the side facing her taunted her, showing off Todd's new, vixen form, the body that should never have been hers and yet, now, would be forever. Vanessa sobbed through the door, although her whimpers became quieter and quieter as he brushed himself off and took a deep breath, something tightening in his gut as that new sheath settled more comfortably into his fur, set, perhaps, where it had always been meant to reside. Only time, on that count, would tell. But he had to be strong; he had to be strong for Todd.
Vanessa opened the door tentatively, the fox who should have been a woman, and took a deep breath, tears seeming unnatural on a muzzle like that, clinging to the fur. Animals didn't cry... No. No, he wasn't an animal but an anthro and those were two very different things as he blinked at the vixen before him, Todd's eyes wide and strained, lips parted to pant heavily, sucking in desperate breath after breath. Nothing was sure, everything wrong, T's paw outstretched, clearly wishing against all wishes that she had someone to take it for her, to make it all right again, but the fact of the matter was that there was no stability left for them, gender roles well and truly turned on their heads.
One thing, however, was certain, as they took each other into trembling arms, holding one another close.
Things would never be the same again.
*
Vanessa was fortunate that work had accepted the change in sex so suddenly but a doctor was able to confirm that his fingerprints were the same after shaving away the fur there. Taking a scent marking sample had been more embarrassing still but, for the sake of still having access to his accounts, he'd borne through it admirably, muzzle held high. Everyone at work had so many questions for him, how it had happened, how he liked his new body and, of course, whether it was a sexual fetish for him. The fact that that question was a shade too intimate didn't seem to register with people but he soldiered on regardless, assuring those working around him that it was only a temporary thing and they'd find a way, soon, to reverse the changes.
Opportunities opened up for him though and, even as a fox, Vanessa found that he didn't attract as much unwanted attention on the street. On the contrary, it was freeing to be able to stride out without any worry or concern at all over who was watching or who might have been planning something, the fright of being a woman in a big city evaporating as if it had never been.
Maybe... Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing, after all. Grinning, he shook his head, shirt strained over a chest that bulged with more muscle than he had ever had as a woman. How funny it was to think that but, well, it was true! And he was not a fox who was at all in the habit of lying.
Home called and he pushed into the house with a smile, tongue lolling from his muzzle, sniffing the air. There was something there, something food-ish... But what was it? Had Todd actually been cooking again? How sweet of her!
“Hey, T!"
He tried to be cheerful and chirpy but his voice rang deeper, searching out his partner in the house that should have been more familiar to him than it was in a new form. As a fox, Vanessa was taller than he had been but it suited him well, except for knocking his head and ears on door frames, the cabinets all at the wrong heights for a man who was not used to having to be careful how much space he took up.
Wait, not a man: a fox. A fox. V had to remember that. There were forms to get it right on now, for eff's sake...
“Todd?"
He found her in the kitchen and wrapped his arms around her, drawing her in against his chest, chin on top of her head. Todd sighed and shook him off, a spoon in paw, although the concoction on the stove did not look quite as appealing as it smelled, which was a shame for more reasons than just the one.
“Hey."
Vanessa raised an eyebrow.
“Alright, what's going on? Did I do something?"
“No, no..." Todd was quick to reassure him, fingers brushing Vanessa's arm even as she returned to absently stirring the pot, cooking or at least as close to cooking as it was possible for her to go with her limited skill-set. “Just... I went to see the doctor today, the one we're supposed to be checking in with. You need to go Friday, but you'll have time then. He said..."
She took a breath and Vanessa squeezed her shoulder comfortably, lips pressing together in worry that it no longer felt natural to vocalise. Todd had always been the stronger one, the one who took charge and took control, but something had changed in him, the vixen becoming smaller and more diminished, and that wasn't simply due to T's smaller stature.
“Hey... You know you can tell me anything right, T?"
Nuzzling her ear (now that was a new thing to get used to), Vanessa drew her closer, holding her softly. But Todd hardly responded, listless and deflated, her ears slanted back and down to the sides. It was as if T hardly realised that Vanessa was there.
“Yeah, the doctor says now that we drank something, some prank that went wrong," Todd said, dully and flatly. “They don't think they can do anything about it without knowing what was in it though, as usual."
“Hey now."
Usually, it would have been Todd comforting Vanessa but the tears in the vixen's eyes moved him so, Vanessa warmly and readily taking T into his arms, cradling and soothing. His paws swept down Todd's back and she leaned into her, whimpering and sobbing, however she tried to hold her tears back.
“There's nothing we can't do together," Vanessa whispered, pressing his lips to Todd's forehead. “We're going to get through this together. Trust me."
And nothing would have seemed more natural then and there than the two of them leaving the only somewhat edible dinner set off to the side and making their way upstairs to come together sweetly as they had before. Nudity didn't seem the same with fur covering them but they made it work, awkwardly working out as they nuzzled and kissed, unable to lock lips anymore as they had. It took some getting used to but they both needed the other as much as before and they worked it out, Todd on top and blushing heavily as she was penetrated.
It was wrong and right, both at the same time in a way that they could not explain and did not have to explain. They were foxes and the same needs ran through them as they did as human beings, their love and lust for one another absolute at all times. Vanessa's thoughts turned to having a family and he pushed for it while Todd hung back, of course insisting, as she always had, that they used condoms at all times. A fox getting condoms at the pharmacy was something that raised eyebrows (anthros were better known for getting condoms and the like that suited anatomy that was a little different to humans more generally) but Todd pushed through it resolutely, having always been the one anyway who was forced to pick them up.
Work changed and Vanessa ascended, their situation remaining the same, although they were made promise after promise that the potion would be reversed, that they would be able to do something to alter the effects of it. His sales position rocketed into superstar status and he soared in confidence even as, conversely, Todd lost her job due to redundancy and found her calling as a 'housewife' of sorts, although they were not married. It seemed to suit her well and she learned to cook, throwing herself into keeping the house in tip-top condition even as she set up a side-business too, finding her fingers were better put to work in crafting and woodwork, her designs a huge hit online and the money rolling in from that avenue too seemingly effortlessly. She broke her back in all she did and Vanessa kindly and loving massaged T's back for her, easing all the soreness out that he could physically, although there was a mental ache there too that could not be softened quite so easily.
Emotionally... Well, that was something that they would have to work on as they adjusted and, finally, committed to living as foxes for the rest of their days. With no cure in sight and the good fortune to have a stable position in work and life, there was little else they could do but try to make the best of a shitty situation. Vanessa's attitude shifted and Todd struggled to keep up with V's changing mood, not driven by hormones or a crap work day anymore, his life given direction. But just Vanessa's striving to find out who he was as a fox required more reflection than someone could have initially imagined too, taking up time while T was left by the wayside at times too.
“Look how much stronger I am than you!"
Vanessa growled as if he was trying to make a point, lifting his lover bodily from the floor as he squeezed the breath out of T. Todd squealed and gasped but he wasn't letting go not even as she kicked, a heel flying off and striking the sofa as she fought and fought, eyes bulging and wild.
“What the hell, Vanessa? You messed up my dress!"
Vanessa stepped back, allowing the angry vixen room, although he did ever so slightly regret allowing her breath again as she fumed and re-dressed herself, the straps of her dress slipping down her shoulders, fur ruffled up the wrong way. Once again, Todd was off out without him and he wasn't invited, her girlfriends not knowing that she used to be a woman but not really the sort to care either. Todd had said that she just didn't want to explain the story over and over again but Vanessa could not resist poking the bear once more. Just the once.
“So, are you going to tell them you just had skin at some point? You think they're going to flounce off if you show them who you really are?"
“What? No. No, Vanessa, that's none of your business. Honestly, you think you've got all the answers for everything but you really don't!"
They made up and Vanessa apologised for teasing, for once again pushing things too far, kissing her on the tip of her nose before she made good for her night out, dinner and drinks – the works. V would lounge and maybe go to the gym, working on his physique a little more all for his own pleasure. It was not as if Todd appreciated it that much anymore, barely even looking at him during sex. It was almost as if... No. No, he wouldn't think like that. Better to jerk one off and wait for his lover to come home. Things would all be right again then.
However, all was not well in the world of love and Todd flung her arms out over her head, clinging to the headboard as she begged Vanessa, too loudly, over the top, to pound her, to slam into her, harder and faster than ever before. Her pussy swallowed it all up and T howled for it, yet another feminine orgasm crashing over her. There was nothing that she could not have in Vanessa's arms, her sweet lover taking her with lustful need, his tongue lolling out and a little drool even splattering to the side of her head and muzzle.
“Yeah, baby... Baby, you like that?"
Vanessa growled, revelling in his masculinity, eyes narrowed, holding back. He was the 'studliest' fox in the world, the most powerful, a stunning creature and feature that Todd was lucky to have. He knew how ladies looked at him at work now and he revelled in the attention, head thrown back in a raspy howl as he snarled out his lust for her, fuelling the drive to breed, to fuck, to claim, into his sexy, hot partner over and over again.
“Ohhh!"
Vanessa grunted, teeth showing in a daring flash, as he slammed in, spending his load, pole pulsing to erupt inside his sweet, sweet lover. Pressing his forehead down against her shoulder, he groaned and softened into her arms, letting Todd hold and caress him even as his cock slipped from her delectable depths. And it may have all been alright if Todd's eyes had not caught sight of that little gleam between her thighs, moisture where there should only have been her natural arousal and feminine juices.
“What the hell?"
Scrambling away, Todd stared in horror between her legs, but no amount of swiping and digging and rubbing dramatically with her fingers was going to stop that drool of cum from existed. And T couldn't even shove her fingers up deep enough inside her cunt to get it all out, everything taking on a harsher, cruder note, Vanessa simply blinking at her as if she'd gone insane.
“What's wrong?"
“Ohhh, like you don't know what's wrong!"
Todd lashed out, crossing her legs, but it was obvious what was wrong, the box of condoms sitting on the bedside table as Vanessa shrugged sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Err... Well, it's not like we can get pregnant like this, right? The doctor said my seed is not viable, didn't he?"
Gaping at her, Todd made a strangled sound, barely able to get the words out.
“No! No, that was very much not what he said! Weren't you listening?"
Evidently not, but Todd steamrolled on, leaping up and pacing, inner thighs sticky with semen that drooled forth, fear drumming on her heart.
“No, no, no, of course, you weren't, you never listened, you always thought you knew best with everything! What he said was that you can't get a woman pregnant – but I'm not a woman now, am I? I'm a fucking fox!"
They calmed down eventually and Vanessa drove to the pharmacy at breakneck speed, cheeks hot with embarrassment, to get the morning-after pill for Todd, even though he had been on birth control when he'd been a woman. They should have remembered something like that but it had slipped by as so many other changes took place, lives twisting and turning and work still needing to go on regardless.
Getting away with that scare sent them back to reality and intimacy did not improve, awkward and yet still passionate, as if they were forever virgins who could have one good time and one bad time – sometimes both in the same session. Sensations did not feel the same or came more powerfully or weaker than before and they couldn't get onto that with each other, whimpering and curling up night after night, slowly giving up on making sex good again, their backs to one another in the dark of the night. With their fur coats, they didn't 'need' to cuddle anymore on a cold winter night but time passed and spring came and, still, there was no cure for the two of them, stuck as foxes.
They loved one another... And yet it wasn't enough. Vanessa came into himself more and more and Todd couldn't take the constant pushing and pressure for a family, now that Vanessa knew that he was not going to be the one staying home to look after a family, forced to cook and clean and work and care for a little one – just how was any woman expected to do that? The forty-hour work week (hah!) didn't even allow for normal life to be led with all the expectations that anyone had on them so just how was he supposed to be the caregiver of a child or a fox cub too? But that was different as he knew that those expectations would be placed on someone else and he even found himself eager to do his part as a male fox, one who would be able to teach and care and love without the responsibility weighing him down. He may well have done as much or more than a female partner in the relationship when it came to children once his perspective changed but sometimes it took that change in perspective to unravel the fear from where it taken such secure root.
They dated others but tried to stay together, moving out and then wondering – what if they gave it another shot? And yet everything was too unsound and unsteady in a world that they were learning to traverse, Vanessa's job taking him to the top of the company and into a management position where he worked even longer hours, hammering away at something that had never before been a passion. It was not the fact that he was a fox, of course, that gave him more chances but the change in his attitude, the powerful go-getter that wouldn't take no for an answer in a business setting. Undoubtedly though, his true charisma was finally allowed an opportunity to come out, working on relationship-building and pushing it higher and higher, receiving every last accolade and bonus that it was possible to get in that company.
It took him further and further away from Todd, although they had something to keep them together as they learned and loved and even still fucked – well, it wasn't as if Todd could become pregnant for a second time while she was still carrying Vanessa's child. The male fox laid his head on that slowly rounding out stomach lovingly, listening and waiting for the kicks, even though that part of pregnancy was still to come later on. That didn't stop him from hoping, however, caring and providing all he could still for Todd while she worked and rested, keeping on with her business while her attention was demanded on all fronts. Never before had she been such a socialite, although she had to restrict herself to podcast appearances and YouTube videos as her pregnancy progressed and, well, her attentions were taken up with an entirely more lovely vixen than the one that even she had become.
With her stomach heavy with cub, Todd sighed happily, her hind paws up on the ottoman as she relaxed, her girlfriend shyly rubbing her paws, her fur a darker shade, although there would be little other way to tell them apart if they were in just their fur to an eye that was not familiar with either of them in depth or detail. She was sweet, so very sweet, and she had the form that Todd's nature still liked instinctively, distinctly feminine with a thick, luscious brush that she yearned to run her fingers through over and over again.
“I told you that you shouldn't make the appearance at the shopping centre," Pret murmured, looking up at her lover with a twinkle in her eye. “It's too much for you now, you need to rest. We're going to have our baby soon."
She knew, of course, who the cub was fathered by but that didn't bother Pret as it had happened before she'd come on the scene and if there was a time that a fox had to give someone the benefit of the doubt it was when they had been transformed into a form that they had never consented to. That was a life change indeed that one could not be held responsible for and they'd given up searching for a cure when it had become obvious that their new lives, however it may have disrupted prior relationships, were not actually that bad. In all honesty, Todd was growing more and more used to having fur and a tail and different ears – so many different facets that all made up a fox! And she was one of the best of them, working her tongue more sensually and smoothly as she wrapped it around that of her lover, two lusty female bodies coming together in a way that, finally, did not feel clunky or awkward at all.
It was...natural. Completely and blissful natural.
Things between Todd and Vanessa had to come right in the end, however, and all's well that ends well for them to end up with the foxes that they were always meant to be with...even if that was not one another. Finally comfortable with their pronouns, changing over fully to newly male and female ones in all aspects of life, Todd and Vanessa found love elsewhere, even though they would always have a manner of love for one another. What that love was, however, remained to be seen, although neither of them minded if it didn't have a name or a term, something that didn't have to be explained. They knew one another well enough to not need anything like that between them, even though their relationship romantically had crumbled.
Todd, after all, had found a liking for the fairer sex, her preferences in that regard remaining the same, regardless of what gender she was. It didn't matter too much who either of them loved as long as they were happy and Vanessa smiled at his old lover over the table, masculinity radiating from him like it never had from Todd when he'd been a male. Maybe the whole thing had allowed them to take on the bodies and forms that expressed their true selves but neither of them would have denied that there was still a part of them that longed for a simpler time when Todd was a man and Vanessa was a woman. Things had been simpler then, it could not be denied, and they had, in a way taken on the embodiment of the other gender in time too, working their way through culture and expectations to find how they were, truly, as a fox and a vixen.
Truth be told, it had not been the easiest of tasks at hand or paw. But it had all come right in the end as they sat in the restaurant, sipping wine and conversing as naturally as if they had been double-dating their whole lives, both with their new girlfriends who, coincidentally, happened to be foxes too. And they were the most beautiful of foxes, if one had dared to ask either Todd or Vanessa what they thought of them, although society had become more and more comfortable with anthros in their midst so they did not, at least, attract as many looks as they once had, which was a blessing in itself for the matter of their privacy.
“Shouldn't you two change your names at some point?" Vanessa's new partner, Kira, said across the table, a forkful of food halfway to her mouth. “It's been a while now, though it doesn't matter really. Just odd that the two of you haven't officially put it on the forms yet."
“Oh!"
Todd smiled, laying her napkin down.
“Well, funny you should mention that! We're going to go at the end of the week, in fact. Just seemed more fitting to do this one together, the end of an era, you know?"
Everyone nodded and Kira leaned forward, her ears twitching, curiosity perked.
“What will your new names be then? I can't believe you didn't tell me Vanessa! Shame on you!"
Todd and Vanessa exchanged a look and smiled, although one pressed their lips a little more tightly together than the other.
“Tallah, for me," Todd said quietly, looking down at her lap. “It always sounded pretty."
“And mine will be Everett," Vanessa said, sitting up straight with a smile that said that he'd known all along that that was the right name for him. “I think it's fitting and it should make a nice e-mail signature for me."
“Not everything's about work, you know!"
And, just like that, the tense atmosphere was broken, everything softening as they laughed and joked together, a group of foxes that knew and understood each other perhaps better than anyone else. Sure, times had changed but they would come to be right as Vanessa raised her glass, toasting what no one else but her and Todd knew about as yet.
“And the little one, when they are born, will be either Todd or Vanessa, to let one of our names live on." Vanessa smiled, fingers twitching, itching to reach over and rub her belly bump. “Then something will continue regardless of how our lives changed. It's a good end for them, right?"
One way to live on while they lived their true lives. Settling into their new roles, Todd put her arm around Pret and held her close, the smaller vixen murmuring softly as she leaned into her lover. There was nothing that could separate them and the same was true for Vanessa and Kira, although one of them had taken more keenly to adoring the opposite gender, the gender that they had been, while their lives had become...well... They knew what they'd become. Yet again, it was not something that they had to put a label on.
Gender swapping could be fun but it was the afterglow that led into the rest of one's life.
They should know: they were living it.
