A tad later than I would have liked, I go over each part thoroughly before uploading and make any minor adjustments, some mistakes still do fly under my nose. Feel free to call me an idiot if I make a mistake and feedback/constructive criticism is absolutely welcome.

Anyway, done talking, enjoy!

Parties Can be Fun… I Guess

Chapter 9

Conner let out a long sigh as he engaged the parking brake and shut off the car, he went to open the door and get out, but Daniella grabbed his arm and crawled from her own seat and sat in his lap.

“Uhhh… what are you doing?” Conner asked, concerned and uncertain.

She didn’t make much of a sound, just wrapped her arms around him and squeezed him tightly. The dragon shoved her head into his shoulder, that was when Conner felt wetness from her face and she started to softly cry.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Are you okay?” Conner worriedly asked.

“They tried to kill me first even though I didn’t say or do anything!” the black dragon sobbed.

“It’s their culture…” Conner grunted, venom dripping from his words.

Sniffing back her tears, Daniella raised her head to look Conner in the eyes. “What?” she asked quietly.

“Sorry, I should be more specific, in India, dragons used to be seen as creatures of malice, greed, and all things evil, bringing death and bad luck to everyone who sees them,” Conner scoffed. “It’s super hypocritical, but some still associate dragons with bad karma,” he added with clear disdain in his voice.

“Alright, let me get up please?” Conner grunted as he tried to reach for the door. Daniella let out a whine of disapproval as the door opened. “I can’t get out if you are squishing me into the seat!” Conner grunted with a laugh.

Daniella huffed in annoyance before crawling out of Conner’s lap, the second Conner got out of the car, she jumped into his chest and held him with every limb she could.

“Oh for Christ sake…” Conner sighed as he stabilized himself and wrapped his right arm around Daniella’s back so she wouldn’t drag him to the ground if she slipped.

Daniella held the human tight as he walked up the street towards the house this party was held at. She was absolutely disgusted that those people in that car had tried to kill her just because she was a dragon. She endured enough bullshit in her early childhood due to her scale and eye colour. Red and black were usually associated with evil and she had to admit, she did look terrifying in the dark.

Even with the speedbumps Daniella encountered over the years, she always had a pillar to hold her up. That pillar was currently holding her up in a more literal sense than figuratively at the moment. Conner had always been there for her, a wall to shield and protect her from the rest of the world, a shoulder to cry on, a hand that could pull her up when she had been knocked down.

Daniella couldn’t wait any longer, she needed to ask. “Conner, what are we?” she asked quietly, almost hesitantly. Feeling the human tense, she feared the worst.

“Are you talking about what we did earlier today?” Conner asked, feeling slightly uncomfortable.

“yes,”

“Oh boy…” Conner scratched the back of his neck with his free hand. “Okay, to be fair, I think I still need time to…. Ugh. I don’t know, Ella,” he sighed. “I’m not mad at all, I’m just uncertain how both of our parents would react and I think I need to think it over before agreeing to anything.”

“Oh… okay,” Daniella said, sounding utterly disappointed and crestfallen. The feeling of Daniella’s wings drooping and touching his thighs made Conner’s heart ache.

“Hey! I never said no, I just said I need to think over what we did and how it could affect my fu- sorry, our future,” Conner said, trying to reassure the dragon. “I have literally killed three people for you!” Conner added before snapping his mouth shut and freezing.

Daniella was confused as to why he stopped walking before she realized what he said. “Wait! You actually killed Ryjin?!” she gasped in shock after jumping from his grasp and to the ground.

Conner stared ahead blankly, his silence was enough to tell her all she needed to know.

“I mean I was suspicious, but to actually have confirmation… I- I don’t know what to say.” Daniella turned away from Conner to look up at the sky. A whirlwind of emotions swirling about in her mind.

Conner grimaced and closed his eyes, afraid of Daniella’s reaction. What he didn’t expect was to be picked up and wrapped in a tangle of scaly limbs. Daniella hugged him tightly against her chest as she again began to softly cry.

“I could not have asked for a better best friend,” Daniella choked out through her tears.

Conner chuckled softly, wrapping his arms around her back, as best he could with her wings in the way, while trying his hardest to hold back tears of his own. “Alright, I think we should get a move on,” Conner grunted, finding it quite difficult to talk when being bear hugged by a dragon who can and has bent construction grade rebar with her bare paws.

The dragon let out an annoyed huff before setting the human down gently, the two made their way down the sidewalk. Conner was unsure which house it was until Daniella pointed it out for him. A very large mansion of sorts, it was a beautiful home. As they walked up the driveway, the front door opened and out stepped Cameron as well as another human. This human male was a bit taller than Cameron with short brown hair and brown eyes.

“Ah shit! Long time no see, Conner,” the brown haired human chuckled. “Seems you’ve got a full beard now,” he added with a friendly smile.

“Oh hey Kyle, yeah, finally grew in,” Conner laughed as he scratched at the aforementioned beard. “last time we saw each other was Treena’s sixteenth?” He added questioningly as he followed the much more social black dragon inside, her tail possessively coiled around his leg, dragging Conner along.

“Yeah, I think it was Treena’s sixteenth hatch day…” Kyle said, a hint of uncertainty in his voice as he followed Conner inside.

Inside the large house, one Conner mused was likely worth fifteen million or more, was bustling with activity. Conner’s introverted nature was screaming at him to find a secluded corner to hide away, but Daniella, being twice his size and weight, didn’t give him the chance to get away.

Walking through the house, Conner was yet again reminded of her size, while being on all fours, her shoulders still reached level with the middle of his torso, almost chest height, and her head reached about level with his neck. He looked down at the tail coiled around his leg before trailing his gaze up her tail to where it met the rest of her body. Daniella had been fairly lanky when she was younger, but as she grew, she bulked up a fair bit. Going from skinny to muscular in what seemed like months. Conner eyes settled upon the dragon’s hind quarters… shapely hindquarters. Even though he had noticed it before, their escapades this morning had made Conner realize just how attractive Daniella’s figure was, muscular and shapely.

Conner shook his head, shocked at where his mind had wandered. “She does have a nice ass though…” Conner blinked his eyes a few times while making a face that could only be described with one word; “bruh”.

“Hey Conner, you good?” a feminine draconic voice that wasn’t Daniella’s asked from in front of him.

“Huh? Oh yeah, my brain was on a different planet for a second,” Conner chuckled, looking at the silver dragoness sitting in front of Daniella with a quizzical expression on her face.

“What were you thinking about?” the silver ‘ness asked curiously, giving a slightly suspicious glare. She knew exactly what Conner was looking at.

“Had been doing research on some conspiracy theories again yesterday,” Conner lied.

“Of course,” Daniella said with a roll of her eyes as she sat down next to Conner.

“Oh cut him some slack, you seriously should look at some of the stuff I’ve sent you from him. The 9/11 stuff is especially terrifying, Danielle.” The silver ‘ness scoffed.

“I- ugh, why do you humour him, Treena?” Daniella groaned.

“Just do some research… your boyfriend isn’t that crazy,” Treena teased with a smirk. Daniella rolled her eyes while Conner froze like a statue. “Oh no, how many people has she told? Did Cameron tell anybody? Oh fuck!” Conner’s mind began to race a million miles a minute. A firm slap to the back of the head was enough to snap Conner back to reality.

“Hey! Wha-”

“Cameron asked me if I was cool with him telling Kyle, Michal, Karyna and Treena, I told him it was fine. Nobody else knows,” Daniella said just loud enough for only Conner to hear.

Conner glared at Daniella before fixing his hat on his head with an annoyed grunt. Daniella responded by sticking out her long, dark purple tongue at him.

Daniella continued to mingle and chat with her other friends all while dragging Conner along with her. After what felt like hours, Daniella dragged Conner into a room mostly populated by mutual friends of Conner and Daniella. She pushed him towards a love seat, two seater couch, before plopping down next to him and sprawling out across the small couch.

Conner let out an annoyed huff as the dragon snuggled her upper half into his lap, resting her head and forelegs on the armrest. “So was this your plan all along? Drain my social battery before trapping me on a couch once you knew I wanted to leave?” He grunted in annoyance.

“Mayyybeeeee…” Daniella giggled.

Conner sighed before pulling his arms free from under Daniella, placing his left hand on her head and his right hand on her lower flank. He began gently running his right hand up and down her flank while scratching the top of her head between the base of her horns with his left.

“Are you guys dating or what?” Michael asked with a mix of exasperation and bemusement. Michael’s comment made Conner stop giving the dragon attention, much to her displeasure, said displeasure was voiced with an unamused whine.

“I- I don’t know…” Conner sighed as he resumed his ministrations. His efforts were rewarded by Daniella’s soothing purrs.

“What do you mean; “You don’t know?” Michael scoffed. “It is so plainly obvious how much she wants you!” He added with a laugh.

Conner scratched through his beard in annoyance before going back to petting Daniella.

“Can I ask what happened when you killed Ryjin?” Daniella’s voice whispered in Conner’s head.

Conner closed his eyes with a huff before going into vivid detail about exactly what happened, through telepathy of course. He also showed all of the incriminating evidence that he had found on Ryjin’s phone.

“He really was planning on breaking in and raping me?” Daniella said, her tone in his head laced with fear and disgust. Letting out an involuntary shudder, Daniella snuggled up tighter against Conner, feeling safe in his embrace.

Conner leaned down to Daniella’s ear, “It may be some time for me to think over this whole relationship thing, but you should always know, I will always be there to protect you… always.”

“Oh now that’s just adorable…” Treena whispered with a chuckle.

“They would make a perfect couple,” a green female dragon with a tan underbelly said next to Treena.

Cameron merely shook his head, chuckling as he spotted the black and maroon dragon sleeping on the love seat, Conner was sitting under her in practically the exact same position he had been when the two had settled on the couch in the first place. Conner and Daniella’s breathing were deathly quiet, neither of them snored and the fact that they breathed so quietly had made some of their friends nervous for a few seconds.

“Should we wake them up?” Michael asked, moving closer to the two and eyeing Conner’s foot.

“Unless you want to trigger an aggressive response, I wouldn’t kick his foot,” Daniella muttered groggily as she opened her right eye. Her pupil constricted to a slit briefly before rounding slightly as her eye adjusted to the light.

“Oh, sorry for waking you,” the green ‘ness said apologetically.

“Pah, don’t worry about it, Karyna,” Daniella said with a wave of her paw. “This human really knows how to put me to sleep with his damn massages and scratching,” she added with a chuckle.

“You must be good at putting him to sleep too,” Treena chuckled.

“Oh yeah, he fucking loves my purring,” Daniella smirked.

“Fucking noisy cunts,” Conner grunted quietly as he opened his eyes, a scowl was plastered to his face.

“Oh my apologies, princess!” Cameron scoffed, “Did we interrupt your beauty sleep?” he added with a smirk.

“If I wasn’t trapped under like 450 pounds of dragon, I swear!” Conner grumbled as he rubbed his eyes.

“Alright ladies! Cool it! Anyway, everyone else left while you two were sleeping and a house on my street has been abandoned for about two weeks now.” Treena said with a smirk.

The second a possibly abandoned house was mentioned, Conner’s eyes lit up and he leaned forward, no longer groggy. “Well, why didn’t you lead with that?” Conner laughed.

“Well, I wanted to wait until you woke up on your own, but this impatient fuck,” Treena grumbled as she smacked Kyle with her wing, “Was getting tired of waiting.”

“Oh I bet Cameron was also bitching and whining too,” Conner laughed.

“He was,” Connor chuckled.

“Of course,” Conner said, rolling his eyes when Connor and Cameron started bickering. “Alright, while those two feud like a married couple, you mind giving me the address so I can do some digging?” Conner asked with a roll of his eyes.

“Yeah, sure!” Treena said enthusiastically as she fished her phone out of one of her harness pouches.

“Alright, street is fairly empty right now… let me just disable the streetlights quickly.” Conner said just loud enough for his friends to hear. “The second the lights cut out, into the backyard of the house,” he said sternly before looking down at the display screen on his left arm.

“What the fuck even is that thing?” Kyle asked, clearly intrigued by advanced tech Conner had.

Conner just chuckled before grabbing at his arm and pulling the screen free. In just a matter of seconds, the arm sleeve and screen transformed into a smartphone that looked identical to an iPhone 14 with a fairly sturdy looking case.

Kyle stared in awe for a few seconds before focusing back on the abandoned house they were all slowly walking towards. Conner put his phone back on his arm, the screen spread out over his arm as the case wrapped around his arm once again.

Conner slowed his pace slightly as a car drove by, once the car was out of sight, he nodded at his friends before tapping something on his phone. The second the street lights went dark, the eight friends bolted. They reached the backdoor in about thirty seconds, a few muttering about how big the house really was.

“Hey, were the fuck did Conner go?” Karyna whispered with a hiss as they stood near the rear entrance, looking around in confusion.

The sound of the back door opening caught the group’s attention, the door slowly creaked open to reveal… no one. Everyone got a bit nervous, besides Daniella, she just rolled her eyes with a sigh before walking around the algae ridden pool and into the house.

The group cautiously followed the black dragon inside, the second Daniella stepped out of the rays of moonlight, she vanished. Once Karyna stepped inside after everyone, the door slammed behind her and locked. The door slam caused Karyna and Treena to scream, the silver dragon, in her fright, lept into Kyle’s arms, knocking him to the floor.

A mass of darkness seemed to move towards them, laughter coming from it as a pair of glowing red orbs appeared on what was likely its face. The laughter devolved into wheezing gasps and snorts, it sounded exactly like Conner’s laughter.

“I fucking got all of you!” Conner said through laughter, his voice echoing in an otherworldly way from the dark mass. A foot appeared from the shadows, the rest of Conner’s body soon followed, tendrils of darkness retreating into the inky blackness behind him as he stepped into the moonlight bleeding in from a window.

“You’re such a piece of shit,” Daniella said, trying her hardest to stifle her giggling.

“I prefer the title; “Asshole”, ma’dam,” Conner said jokingly with a posh English accent and an exaggerated bow.

“Get a room!” Kyle called out from beneath Treena, the silver ‘ness still hadn’t quite recovered from her near heart attack.

“I might just drag him into one and do horrible things…” Daniella said with a hungry growl as she started circling the human like a big cat stalking prey.

“Alright, I need to ask. How the fuck did you get inside?” Treena asked before helping Kyle off of the floor, apologizing profusely as she did so.

“Third story window was open so I just…” Conner stepped out of the moonlight and morphed into the darkness around him. They watched as his shadowy form zipped across the floor and up a wall in seconds.

After Conner rejoined the group, not as a shadow, they began to explore this grand mansion. The house was an absolutely huge Victorian Era mansion with easily ten bedrooms. The kitchen and living room were stunning and the entire house appeared frozen in time. Everything seemed like it hadn’t been touched in five years.

“So what’s the history behind the house?” Conner asked as he approached the fridge.

“So the owner’s were an elderly couple, husband died around eight years ago and the wife just died recently, she had been in a nursing home for the last five years…” Treena said as she opened the door to the large walk in pantry. “Living family is currently feuding over the will left by the couple and none live in Canada at the moment,” she added before walking into the massive pantry.

The sound of someone gagging and a fridge door slamming caused Treena to poke her head out of the pantry.

“I fucking knew it!” Conner coughed as he backed away from the fridge. “I told myself I would regret opening the fridge!” he exclaimed in annoyance before backing into the massive island in the centre of the kitchen, his gloves audibly clacking against the dusty granite countertop.

“Every single structure we’ve explored, it’s either you or Mike who opens the fucking fridges and freezers,” Daniella chuckled from the entrance to the kitchen.

“Call it morbid curiosity? I think…” Conner said, unsure of his choice of words.

“Maybe you should stuff your curiosity to the back of your brain for once!” Daniella chuckled.

“Ha!” Conner shook his head as he made his way out of the kitchen to explore the rest of the large estate. Daniella followed closely behind him, even though this human drove her nuts, he was perfect in her eyes and she hoped he would make up his mind about her soon.
