Many apologies it took so long, gave an explanation in my most recent journal... anyway, enjoy!

Peaceful Date Night…

Chapter 14

Daniella let out a tired groan as she awoke to the sounds of birds loudly chirping on the balcony through the glass door. She yawned wide, exposing her razor sharp dagger like teeth before clutching at her chest, she opened her eyes in confusion, noticing emptiness. She took a sniff of the air, someone had clearly cooked breakfast and Conner’s scent was still strong enough in the air to signify that he had yet to leave the house.

She jumped out of bed, stretching her neck, wings and tail. “How did he manage to squirm out of my grasp?” Daniella thought to herself, her wings folding back into place as she jumped out of bed with a heavy thud and made her way to the door. She opened the door and stepped out into the hall, she could hear the TV in the living room as well as some faint metallic tinking and tapping noises.

Daniella let out a sigh as she descended the stairs to the main floor, she spotted Conner sitting at the dining room table, his back was facing her and he appeared to be wearing his Tek suit. She rolled her eyes before approaching. She spotted the plate of eggs, bacon, sausage and hashbrowns on the table next to what looked like a very large, rune engraved sword.

“Already eating breakfast without me?” Daniella questioned with faux offence in her voice.

Startled, Conner leapt up from his seat, grabbing the sword as he spun around to face Daniella with the blade held at the ready. “Scan complete, deploying Nanotech copy,” the AI said in a monotone voice just as Conner completed his turn. A series of metallic clicking followed by a shing sound rang out as an exact copy of Conner’s arcane blade shot out of his left gauntlet, the blade looked identical minus the runic engravings.

“Fuck, you scared the shit outta me!” Conner sighed as he lowered both four and a half foot long swords, realizing it had only been Daniella.

“Jesus Fuck, Conner! You need to relax,” Daniella said with a snort.

“S-sorry, you really startled me,” Conner muttered apologetically.

“That might have been partially my bad for sneaking up on you,” Daniella chuckled, clearly not mad at Conner for letting his instincts take over.

“Sorry I didn’t wake you up, you seemed so peaceful and the room was dark enough for me to be able to Shadow Walk,” Conner said with a smile as he retracted the Nanotech sword back into his gauntlet. “I made breakfast for you as well, maple syrup is in the fridge if you want to dip your sausages in it,” he added as he turned back to the table, placing his arcane sword on the table before pulling his helmet off and placing it next to his sword.

“Canadians,” Daniella muttered with a smirk as she walked over to the food Conner had made in the kitchen.

Conner shook his head and rolled his eyes before going back to eating his breakfast. As Daniella sat down at the table next to him, his Tek suit retracted away into discrete, dark clothing.

“Where the hell did you find that sword?” Daniella asked after adjusting the cushion she was sitting on and trying desperately not to stare at Conner’s chest and arms, the snug fitting shirt was hugging his figure in just the right ways.

“Uhmmm… Western coast of British Columbia, it was a cave at the base of a mountain in the Rockies,” he explained matter-of-factly before taking a bite of the breakfast sandwich he had made.

“Wait… that… hold on! You finally went to those coordinates you dreamed about like four years ago?” Daniella staggered, her eyes widened in disbelief. Not only had Conner finally gone to BC, but he had actually discovered something.

“I might have discovered quite a few things too… one thing in particular was-” Conner froze, the TV in the living room was still playing and the speaker volume had just increased.

“Captain! We are getting pinned down and running low on supplies!” a voice said loudly over gunfire coming through the TV speakers.

“Fuck!” Another voice responded, more sounds followed before who was presumably the captain spoke again: "This is Alpha Two-Six, we’re taking heavy fire at Grid 34 Sierra! Hostile forces, platoon strength, need immediate close air support! We’re pinned down and can’t hold for long, over!"

“This is Blackout Actual, read you loud and clear, keep your heads down, coming in for hypersonic flyover,” a male human voice with a Canadian accent responded and Conner felt his stomach drop as he saw Daniella slowly turn to face him, her eyes wide and maw held agape.

The roar of some kind of aircraft that actually rattled the house through the speakers made Conner drop his head down with a deep sigh.

“What the fuck was that!?”

“This is Blackout Actual, coming in for another passover, show of force,”

“This is Alpha Two-Six, no! You are cleared red, danger close!”

“Roger that!” There was a few seconds of ambient cabin noise before the voice of the mysterious pilot spoke again. “Lets see what this old girl can do,” he chuckled before the radio ambience went silent, making Conner shift uncomfortably under Daniella’s piercing, predatory gaze.

“Is that an SR-71?” a voice from the TV asked loudly in disbelief.

*BRRRRRTT*

And that did it, Conner wanted to try and convince himself that he wasn’t listening to his doing, but that brrrt, he knew. It was distinct, he had taken some time last night before he got home to take a look at his newly acquired/rediscovered SR-71 Blackbird. That brrrt from the TV was the sound of four 20mm cannons firing in unison.

“Alpha Two-Six, more units approaching from the southeast side of settlement. Radar is picking up at least five aircraft and thermal is picking up platoon sized ground units, possibly more. Over.”

“Roger that, we are still unable to reach command, can you assist? Over.”

“Affirmative, marking LZ, keep clear, over!”

“You have got to be fucking kidding me, Conner!” Daniella cried out, she couldn’t believe how reckless he could be.

“What the fuck was I supposed to do?! Ignore the fucking distress call?” Conner challenged with a glare, angrily slamming a fist on the table to prove a point. His point was clearly emphasized by everything on the table jumping up a few inches before crashing back down.

“Why were you over the Iraqi desert in an SR-71 in the first place?” Daniella growled, ready to plant her feet and weather another nasty argument.

Conner stuttered over his words for two seconds, seemingly too angry to formulate words for a brief moment. “I found the damn plane in our old home from our past lives and decided to take it for a joyride, ended up over the Middle East and thought; ‘why not scout the desert for any active terrorist group hideouts or training grounds?’ That sort of shit,” he said with a displeased sigh.

“When the hell did you start working for the US Military?” Daniella asked, clearly unamused.

“Wha- Huh? I’m sorry, where the fuck did you get that idea from?” he responded, utterly confused.

“Scouting the desert for terrorists, and over Iraq?” Daniella stated like it was as obvious as the sky is blue.

There was a loud smack as Conner facepalmed, he huffed in frustration before realizing he was being a jerk to his now girlfriend as of twelve-ish hours ago. “S-sorry, I’m being an asshole, I can see why that might have seemed confusing. I had taken the jet for a fly around the planet before ending up over the Middle East and decided to scout some terrorist locations for the hell of it and then give the US Military an anonymous tip after I was done scouting. The Blackbird’s advanced radio comms unit picked up a distress signal from a squad of Marines and I just couldn’t ignore it,” Conner explained, using a level tone to try and diffuse the situation, something he was normally terrible at.

Daniella bit her tongue, realizing that Conner was attempting to calm her down by using a softer tone. She could hear her mind chastising her for being the instigator, she was always needing to defuse the situation and calm Conner down, having the roles reversed just felt wrong.

“But your communication with those Marines was practically flawless,” Daniella remarked, deciding she needed to calm herself down and remind herself that she was going to be the non-confrontational one in this relationship.

“Well thanks but it sure as shit wasn’t flawless,” Conner chuckled.

“Such a rare thing for footage like this to be released by Government bodies to News Agencies so early on, but here we are and it seems our Canadian Street Racer has taken to assisting US Marines…. Unfortunately things are still developing but we promise to keep you posted as new information becomes available.”

Conner pinched the bridge of his nose with a sigh, Conservative media was never negative about him even when they should be… especially his reckless and stupid driving shenanigans. Liberal media on the other hand, absolutely hated him and he couldn’t wait to hear about how he aparently ‘raped and pillaged civillian towns and villages in Iraq’.

“So… is there any reason you decided to slaughter those Iraqi rebels rather than drive them away from the Marines with non-lethal means?” Daniella prodded with narrowed pupils.

“Fucking Christ…” Conner sighed before taking a swig of water from the glass he had in front of him. “Okay, I had actually intended to do just that, scare them off… but the AI managed to ID this group and it turns out they were members of a terror group who had split off from Al-Qaeda when their leader was assassinated.” Conner paused, waiting for Daniella to nod before he continued. “This Terror group calls themselves; Al-?aq?q? al-Naj?sa or ‘Purge of the Unholy’...” Conner snarled with disgust, the very mention of the terror group seemed to light a fire behind his eyes.

“Wait… the dragon slayer group?” Daniella questioned in surprise.

“Yes…” Conner responded coldly, his eyes fading to a dull grey.

Daniella watched Conner stare blankly at the table for a few seconds before the colour returned to his eyes. Silence fell over the two as they went back to eating, neither daring to speak after such a heavy topic.

After the two finished eating, Conner stood up, retrieving his plate, and walked over to the kitchen sink, washing his hands and mouth.

“Soo uhhh, we should probably get going soon,” Daniella said as she put her plate in the dishwasher.

“Oh right! Fuck I completely forgot… wait a minute, did you plan this?” Conner asked with a cocked brow.

“What?” Daniella questioned with a raised eyeridge as she sat back on her haunches.

“Pah, I feel like you planned this date to happen just before I turned twenty…” Conner chuckled with a smirk.

“Oh shit, I completely forgot, it’s almost the second of November….” Daniella thought to herself before giving Conner a smile. “Alright, I’ll go get ready quickly… if you bring your damn armour with you, I swear I will strangle you,” Daniella threatened with a glare.

“Heh, don’t threaten me with a good time!” Conner laughed as he made his way to the garage.

Daniella rolled her eyes with a huff before darting away to the bedroom, eager to start their date night asap.

“Ready for another eventful day doing radar?” an officer joked to his partner in the driver’s seat, trying to lighten the mood and ease their growing boredom.

“Oh yeah, so ready!” the female elf groaned, watching the highway traffic pass by.

The elf was about to say something more when she noticed that their cruiser was trembling slightly, her human coworker clearly felt it but couldn’t hear it. A distant roar, the roar of a machine, finely tuned and very much healthy sounding. As it got closer, it became more obvious to her mechanically inclined brain, this thing was a V8 and it was anything but stock. It was also clear that this thing was moving fast…

It started as a distant black dot but rapidly grew, weaving through traffic, as the car kept getting closer, her eyes widened. It was a blacked out C7 Corvette with an aerodynamics kit you would only see on a track car. She could see the heat from the car’s exhaust distorting the horizon behind it, like it was midsummer… and yet, it was almost winter, this car burned hot.

The officers' bones rattled and the cruiser shook violently as this Corvette ripped past them at blinding speed.

After she regained her composure and her ears stopped ringing, the elf raised her head to look at the radar on the dash… the small screen showed a speed reading of 562 km/h…. Her jaw would have hit the floor if it were physically possible.

“That car sounded like a fucking fighter jet!”

Oh did she want to be mad, she really did, but it was Conner’s laughter that made it very hard to be mad at him for toying with law enforcement. Daniella glanced at the speedometer and was shocked to realize this car was definitely not at its top speed.

“How fast can this damn thing go!?” Daniella questioned in disbelief as Conner began slowing down, he may have been reckless but he wasn’t reckless enough to split traffic at such insane speeds.

“I have no idea, I really need to put her on a dyno, but she’d destroy anything I didn’t build myself… too much torque,” Conner chuckled as he took an exit that connected highway 407 to highway 404. “The AI knows how much horsepower it’s pushing but I’ve told her to not spoil it. I have a general idea as the speedometer is digital and the AI set the max speed to eight hundred….”

“So… we are looking at a top speed of around seven hundred fifty?” Daniella asked with bewildered curiosity.

“Oh fucking probably… four massive turbos, massive supercharger, Parallel Hybrid system but the battery is Element Ion rather than lithium….” Conner drummed his fingers on the steering wheel as he tried to recall everything he had done to his Corvette. “Ah yes, the transmission is an eight speed manual, straight cut gears too for smoother shifting, also has what you could call a Smart all-wheel-drive transfer case… I can completely control which wheel receives more power for sharper turning and I can disconnect either differential from the drivetrain,” Conner said with a prideful smirk.

“Wait, so the car can be front-wheel, rear-wheel or all-wheel?” Daniella questioned, clearly impressed and surprised.

“Yup, although I prefer all four wheels receiving power… better overall control and super fun in the snow if it's not too deep,” he said with a chuckle. The last time he had tried using the Corvette during the winter, he had kept getting stuck.

Daniella was about to say something when she watched Conner’s head snap to the left, she rolled her eyes when she realized what had caught Conner’s attention. “Like a moth to a God damn flame…” Daniella chuckled in amusement.

“Oi, fuck off,” Conner grumbled as he took the exit off the highway, he disconnected the accelerator from the V8 to let it rev down and switched to just electric as he entered into a populated area. Once the engine revved down and he shifted the transmission into neutral, he shut it down.

“What are you doing?” Daniella asked curiously as the whine of the transmission and rumble of the engine went silent.

“I’m not going through the damn Timmies drive through with this exhaust setup!” Conner explained with a laugh. “The car is all performance so it’s actually a noise hazard…” he explained before his mask snapped over his mouth just before he reached the drive through menu. Conner wasn’t certain that these terminals had cameras but he wasn’t taking chances.

“And it was the large white hot chocolate with the chai tea bag and Draconic Medium Pumpkin spice?” the worker asked in a professional tone, well almost. Conner caught the slight surprise in their voice and face.

“Yes,” he responded coldly as he retrieved his wallet. Conner pulled out his debit card before looking up, when he noticed that all of the workers were staring at him wide eyed, he snapped his arm back into the car before pulling out a few bills from his wallet.

“As if I’m letting them get my card info now that they recognised the fucking car,” Conner sighed as he handed Daniella her latte.

“Well maybe… maybe my boyfriend shouldn’t drive like a loon and assassinate the Prime Minister while driving such unique and exotic vehicles,” Daniella scoffed from behind her wing, she was not taking any chances and let her own face be seen.

“Funny… very funny, you said that on purpose, didn’t you?” Conner asked with an accusing glare, with his change and tea finally obtained, he peeled out of there.

Daniella gave Conner a guilty smirk while chuckling. “Come on… I can see the headlines already: ‘Infamous Street Racer; Blackout, dating dragoness.”

“Fucking Christ, that won’t just be local or even provincial headlines… that shit might make national, maybe even international headlines,” Conner groaned.

“Make a big stink with human supremacists…” Daniella growled.

“Oh it’ll make a big stink all right… put me in hot water for having a dragon ‘sex slave’,” Conner pursed his lips and glared at Daniella.

“If anyone is a sex slave in this relationship… it's you!” Daniella teased.

“Oh ha… ha…” Conner rolled his eyes before checking the satellite map on the Corvette’s infotainment system. “Traffic is looking grim on the way to the restaurant we made a reservation at…” Conner grumbled. “I fucking hate Toronto!” he added with a frustrated groan.

“You don’t just hate Toronto, you hate congested traffic… and bad drivers”

“And you know what causes congested traffic?” Conner asked rhetorically with a raised brow. “People, people cause traffic, and I don’t like people… I especially hate humans,” he added with a grumble.

“You are a human, Conner,” Daniella scoffed before placing her head on his shoulder.

“A human who hates other humans…. Why do you think I never made many friends and preferred your company over anyone else?”

Glancing at the slow crawling traffic, Daniella sighed before unbuckling her seatbelt. Conner looked at Daniella squirm around in her seat from the corner of his eye.

“There’s barely enough room in this car for you to fit in the first place, what the hell are you doing?” Conner questioned, confusion etched across his face.

“I’ve seen what you’ve been doing with your vehicles these days, make the center console and gear shifter move,” Daniella demanded with a huff.

Conner frowned at her, he wasn’t using the transmission because the electric battery was sending power directly to the wheels and the traffic was too packed together for him to maneuver around. He inhaled deeply before giving the AI control and did as she asked. Tapping a few things on the car’s infotainment screen, the entire center divider between the driver and passenger seat, gear shifter, e-brake lever, center storage box and all retracted and shifted away.

Once everything was out of the way, Daniella laid down across both seats, placing her head in Conner’s lap. She squirmed around a bit to get comfortable. With Daniella’s much larger size, Conner had needed to make a custom seat, the seat was much lower than his own. The height difference of the seats made getting comfortable a tad difficult. After a few seconds more of shifting around, Daniella let out a contented sigh, rubbing the side of her head into Conner’s lower abdomen.

It took a few minutes before they escaped the backed up traffic, once they had gotten free, Conner retook control of the car.

“Computer, can you find an empty parking complex nearby that has multiple exits?” Conner whispered over Daniella’s shallow breathing.

“What fo- oh my, are you seriously planning on doing that or…” the AI chuckled in amusement.

Conner frowned with a sigh before navigating through a colour selection screen on the infotainment system. “No, obviously not… she’s in heat, we will both reek of sex!”

Once he arrived in the empty parking complex the AI had located for him, he completed his selection. The Corvette’s spoiler lowered slightly and the paint colour slowly changed to a very glittery maroon red but the hood scoop, spoiler, front splitter, rear diffuser and roof remained gloss black.

“Hey, can you wake up so I can get my shifter back?” Conner whispered as he reached over and stroked the side of Daniella’s head.

The dragon responded with an irritated rumbly chuff before grabbing his right thigh and falling back to sleep.

“Alrighty then, paddle shifters it is…” he chuckled, thankfully he had thought of something like this being an issue. If the stick shift was unavailable for some reason, he could use the paddle shifters and clutch pedal, the AI could gearshift for him but he much preferred the control for himself and a manual transmission was just better in his opinion.

After starting the car and being nipped for waking Daniella up, they exited the parking complex and arrived at the restaurant in record time.

“Hello, reservation for Mister Stephens and Miss SanNord.” Conner said politely to the waitress near the front entrance.

“Ah yes, six o’clock dinner reservation… right this way,” the white dragoness replied with a friendly smile.

Once Conner and Daniella were seated across from each other in a booth and the waitress was out of earshot, Conner fixed Daniella a surprised look. “This is new…” he remarked.

“What’s new?” Daniella asked with a raised eyeridge.

“A dragon as a waitress… I’m genuinely surprised,” Conner chuckled before fiddling with the matte black ring on his right middle finger.

Daniella eyed the ring briefly, Conner hadn’t had that on during the car ride.

“We’ve come quite far as a society, finally outlawing the draconic slave trade in 1952, draconian creatures being considered equal and given the same rights as humans in 1953,” Conner mentioned with a sigh.

“It is crazy to think that it was still legal for my kind to be enslaved over eighty years after slavery for humans was abolished…” Daniella grumbled.

“Alright, let's move on to something less heavy…” Conner said before reaching for a menu and opening it. “What do you want to get?” he asked with a smile and gestured for Daniella to pick up a menu for herself.

“Uhhh, I’ll just get a rack of ribs, a pasta salad and probably some red wine… yeah… that’s what I’ll get, what about you?” Daniella questioned with a tilt of her head.

“Hmmm…” Conner flipped through the menu again, scanning over all of his options once more before he came to a final decision. “Fuck it, go with something I know I’ll like, bacon cheeseburger with a side of fries and a sprite.”

“Still refusing to drink alcohol…” Daniella teased with a smirk.

Conner rolled his eyes, “Mmmhmm, I need to drive us home and also need to be able to carry you back to the car when you inevitably go too far…” he glared before setting his menu down.

Daniella went to open her mouth but was interrupted when the waitress arrived, they both gave their order of drinks and food before handing their menus to the white dragon. She gave them a smile before making a hasty retreat to the kitchen area.

“Alright, back to what I was going to say… I’m shocked you can even pick me up,” Daniella chuckled as she looked down at herself.

“What, why? Wait, I don’t think I even know how much you actually weigh…” Conner commented while looking out the window beside them, watching the cars go by. Once he realized what he had said he flinched. “Sorry, that wasn’t supposed to be taken in offence!” he spat out in slight panic.

“Oh relax… I weigh around eleven hundred pounds, your comment about me being like four hundred fifty like six or seven months ago was grossly inaccurate,” Daniella chuckled with a smile.

“I’m sorry, you- oh my…” Conner stared wide eyed at the table for a few seconds before looking back up at Daniella. “How did I think you were so light?” he added in disbelief.

“Well I am beyond flattered that you don’t think I’m fat,” Daniella smirked.

“Nah, not fat, thick with three c’s!” Conner snickered.

“Okay!” Daniella snorted, completely caught off guard by Conner’s comment.

The two went back and forth, teasing each other for some time. To any outside observer it would have been painfully obvious that these two weren’t just friends and Conner could already feel the judgmental and sympathetic glances. Sympathy he nor Daniella wanted or needed…

Once the food arrived, the topic of conversation moved in a more serious direction.

“I’ve got to ask, what do you plan on doing in the future?” Daniella questioned before crunching loudly through a rib bone.

Conner stroked his beard in thought, not bothered at all by the sickening crack from teeth snapping bone. “To be honest, I’ve been thinking of enlisting in the military for some time now…” he admitted before taking a bite of his burger.

“Military… I’m not surprised,” she murmured, more to herself than to Conner.

“Well? What do you plan on doing?” Conner questioned with a raised brow before taking a drink.

“Hmmm…” Daniella swirled the wine around in her glass as she mulled over her many options. “I could go to college or uni… both boring and filled with morons or I could also enlist in the military,” Daniella said with a toothy smile as she looked up from her glass at Conner.

“That is an option… there’s actually a separate branch in the CAF geared towards training humanoids and draconians to work together in pairs. You can either join by yourself and be randomly selected a partner or join with a friend and go through basic and specialist training together,” Conner explained with a surprising amount of enthusiasm. Daniella mused that he had likely looked into this already in the past.

“Was that your way of subtly asking me to enlist with you?” Daniella teased with a narrowed gaze.

“Uhh, n-no,” Conner stuttered unconvincingly.

“Mmhmm, sure… Anyway! Military is a genuine consideration of mine,” Daniella chuckled before finishing the last of her pasta salad.

“Really? Well I’ll let you know if I do decide to join,” Conner said with a smile before finishing the last of his fries.

“How are you two enjoying your meals?” the waitress asked, having walked up to check on the pair.

“Food is great,” Conner responded with a smile, Daniella nodded in agreement. “Do you think we could get a refill of our drinks?” Daniella added politely.

“Yes, of course,” the waitress affirmed before taking their empty glasses and vanishing out of sight.

After the waitress disappeared, silence fell over the two. Conner was unsure how long they remained silent, all he was focused on was his food. After about a minute he noticed the silence and looked up from his plate to notice Daniella staring at him. He cocked an eyebrow after Daniella shifted slightly on the lowered booth seat.

Daniella snapped out of her daze after Conner snapped his fingers in front of her snout. “You good?” he asked with raised eyebrows, his eyes searching her own, reading her body language and expression.

“Yeah… sorry,” Daniella said quietly, a half smirk etched across Conner’s face as he caught her blushing.

“I’m guessing you’re glad you wore that harness?” Conner questioned with a smirk.

“Well if I keep staring at you, I’m afraid I’ll soak through the fabric covering my slit,” Daniella whined in a low voice.

“Fucking hornball…” Conner muttered, shaking his head in amusement as he leaned back.

Conner was about to say something more when he nearly jumped out of his skin as the waitress silently set their refilled glasses on the table. He let out a long sigh as he put his right hand over his face. Not a word was uttered before Conner heard hurried claw clicks on wood flooring grow distant.

Pulling his hand away from his face, Conner glanced around the restaurant, he had an uneasy feeling. He spotted a group of seven dragons staring daggers at him. He glared for a few seconds back before rolling his eyes and looking away… tonight was definitely going to be eventful.
