The story continues with alixdweredragon's werefurred-dragons. A very interesting dream leads Alexandre and Élise to look into old myths and legends about their people.

Chapter 3

Alexandre was back in his apartment curled up in his bed with Élise. Outside in the cold December night it was gently snowing, the heavy clouds hid the almost full moon from sight. It had been a pleasant night-in for the young couple. Deep in sleep, Alexandre dreamed.

In his dream the landscape resembled something out of a fantasy setting. Impossibly tall mountains reached up into the sky in the distance. A trio of moons lit up the night sky, but did nothing to drown out the stars. Alexandre found himself in a forest clearing. It felt like late spring, but the trees were the bright red, orange, and yellow of fall. He walked to a small pond in the center and looked into it.

At first Alexandre saw his reflection. But then it changed. His reflection didn’t just take on the mannerisms of his other half. As Alexandre watched the reflection changed until Valixia was staring back at him in all her furred-dragon frightening beauty.

A pair of reptilian amethyst eyes, shimmering in a soft glow with white pupils looked down a tapered muzzle. Valixia ‘s long forked tongue flicked over her lips for a moment but her pointed teeth remained hidden. Her body was covered in black almost shimmering fur, but her head was covered in a mane that was a blend of bright electric blue and dark blue hair. Valixia’s long tail ended in a tuft the same color. Behind her body her large wings flicked slightly. They were a very dark purple on the leading edge of the wing and slowly shifted to a light orange hue on the trailing. Behind Valixia’s brow ridge a pair of long swept back silver horns poked out from her blue mane.

Alexandre was aware of his other half’s appearance, but it had been nearly a month since his first moon. He was transfixed on the reflection, But he jumped a little when she started to move.

Slowly, Valixia rose up from the reflection and exited the pool. She was somehow perfectly dry.

“Hello Alexandre.” she said in a low soft voice.

“I’ve got to be dreaming…”

“What if we are, does that really matter?” She closed the distance between them.

Alexandre had to crane his neck up to maintain eye contact with her. “If it’s a dream, why are you here?””

“I could ask you the same question, dear, it’s my dream too.” Her amethyst eyes sparkled as she spoke.

The young man shook his head. “I knew I shouldn’t have finished off that last tart before bed…”

“Don’t be ridiculous, it was delicious. Élise really is a great baker.”

“Yeah, she is.” He couldn’t help smiling at that.

“I don’t know why we’re sharing a dream now,” Valixia shrugged, “usually we just drift off to our own adventures.”

“I don’t have a reason for it either.” Alexandre was growing slightly more comfortable with the situation. “Though this feels more natural then talking to you through a mirror.”

“It does.” Valixia smiled and seemed to flow like water into her four legged form.

She laid down on the soft grass and patted a spot on the ground in between her legs. Alexandre took the hint and sat down there, leaning his back up against Valixia.

“This gives us a rare ability to be together at the same place and time.” Valixia said as she gently draped her tail over her other half.

“I suppose it does.” He snuggled back against the furred dragon. “This feels nice.”

“It does.” She responded with a soft sigh. “Do you know what else would feel nice?” Valixia stretched out her long neck and pressed her lips against Alexandre’s.

He was surprised, but didn’t pull away. It did feel nice, and before Alexandre knew it, he was resting his hands on the sides of Valixia’s head and pulling her in closer. He didn’t notice when his clothes melted away exactly, he just suddenly felt Valixia’s soft fur brushing against his body as they deepened the kiss with each other. Before long Valixia could feel Alexandre’s cock brushing up against her fur.

She shifted her body and pushed Alexandre gently down onto the grass. She then lowered her mouth onto the shaft, swallowing it whole. He let out a shocked gasp that quickly melted into a loud moan. Alexandre bucked his hips up as he felt Valixia’s warm hot mouth and long tongue stroking and sucking his cock. He didn't last long and was crying out loudly as he climaxed. Valixia slowly pulled her mouth off of him and rolled onto her side. Her own black equine cock was out of its sheath.

As intimidated as he was by the size, Alexandre reachedout and gently stroked the warm shaft. Valixia cooed softly, enjoying the sensations. He slowly grew bolder and started to kiss and lick the shaft, as there was no way he was fitting his mouth around that. She hardly seemed to mind, Valixia moaned softly with her eyes closed while her other half took care of her. In the end, she didn’t last much longer than Alexandre. She let out a sound somewhere between a whinny and a sigh.

As good as it had felt, Valixia wasn’t satisfied. Her body shifted to her two legged form and she wrapped her arms tightly around Alexandre, holding him tight against her chest as they kissed. She rolled onto her back with him on top, pressed deeply between her breasts. Alexandre nuzzled against her soft warm fur. Valixia gently pushed him on the shoulders, and he took the hint and slowly slipped down her body. Her fur stimulated his cock and by the time he was slipping down between her legs he was rock hard once more. Alexandre ran his fingers along her equine slit, wondering if she would even feel him inside her.

“Don’t worry,” Valixia said in a breathy tone, apparently picking up on his worry, “I’ll enjoy it.”

Alexandre just nodded slowly before moving into position. Despite being far less endowed than a furred-dragon, Valixia still felt hot and tight as he pushed in. He tried to go slow, but once he was half way, he slammed himself home. The small yip from his other half was encouraging and Alexandre continued to thrust quick and deep into her. Valixia’s legs squeezed him tightly as she dug into the ground with her claws.

They both cried out in unison as they came together. Alexandre collapsed forward onto the furred-dragon. Valixia pulled him up into her arms and squeezed him tightly. He did his best to return the gesture.

Alexandre was ripped out of his dream and back to the waking world when the alarm on Élise’s phone began to go off. His girlfriend groaned as she flailed about to silence the ringer. It was early in the morning and still dark outside, but that was what life was like for an aspiring pastry chef.

“Mmm, sorry to wake you up too…” Élise turned around to give him a soft kiss.

“Eh, it’s fine; This way I can still say goodbye when you leave.” He said before yawning loudly.

Élise smiled and gave him another longer kiss before she climbed out of bed to take a quick shower. Alexandre watched her as she made her way to his bathroom in just a t-shirt that didn’t quite cover her bottom and smiled. He decided that since he was already up, he might as well get out of bed and make them some breakfast. Alexandre braced for the cold air and tossed off his blanket. He blinked in the low light of his bedroom as he looked down at his body.

Alexandre hadn’t bothered to put on any clothes after they had enjoyed some fun time before bed. What surprised him was how he looked. He ran his hand slowly over his abs. A tuft of black fur, it was far too thick to call it hair, reached up from his crotch to past his navel. There was more, the skin of his scrotum and the base of Alexandre‘s shaft were dark, not quite black but a far deeper shade than his own pale complexion. As he sat up he noticed a slight weight on his chest.

He had grown used to having a better muscle tone since he became a werefurred-dragon, but this wasn't muscle mass. Alexandre’s chest had swelled slightly, giving him small perky breasts. As he touched them he realized his nipples were far more sensitive than before as well. Freaking out slightly he got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. He could hear the shower running, but he needed to talk to Élise immediately. He paused to knock on the door before opening it.

“Élise? I don’t want to interrupt your shower but something…something is wrong with me. I think it’s a were-thing.”

“What do you mean?” she popped her head out of the shower curtain and gasped when she saw the state Alexandre was in.

Alexandre locked eyes with her. “Is this normal?”

“No, it’s not normal…let me rinse out my hair real quick!” she ducked back into the shower and a moment later she was turning it off and reaching for a towel to wrap around herself.

“What happened to me?”

“I don’t know,” Élise placed a wet hand on his shoulder, “but try and stay calm. The moon is still three nights away.” She walked to the bathroom mirror and wiped away the fog with a hand towel. “Do you have any idea what this is?”

Alexandre understood she was asking Tierlin. That reminded him of the dream he had had last night.

“Hey, Élise, is it normal to have a dream with your other half?”

“What are you talking about, anyone can be in your dreams.”

“No, not as a character in my dream.” He shook his head. “More like Valixia dreaming along with me.” he stepped closer so he could see into the mirror. “Right? You remember the dream we had last night?”

“Do I ever.” Valixia smirked back at him.” However, I wasn’t expecting all this.” she ran her hands down over her body. “I’m as puzzled as you are.”

“Tierlin says I should call my grandmother and ask her about it.” Élise sighed. “Let me finish getting ready and I’ll call her.

“Won’t she be asleep?”

“She’s a farmer, she’ll be up, I just need to finish getting ready first. I’m sorry, baby, I can’t skip or be late today, we’ve got a huge order for a Christmas party today.”

“Yeah, I know you mentioned it last night.” He sighed and turned to leave. “I’m going to make some tea, ok?”

Élise wrapped her still wet arms around his chest and hugged him from behind. “We’ll figure this out, I promise.”

“Thanks, Cupcake, I appreciate it.” Alexandre smiled softly.

***

Élise was on the phone with her grandmother before she was done getting dressed for the day.

She put her phone on speaker so Alexandre could hear and fill in information from his side. There was silence after they finished relaying all the information. This only added to Alexandre’s anxiety.

“Elise, do you remember my mother?”

“Mémé? Yes, I remember her. She used to sing to me in French.”

“You remember that? That’s touching really. She passed away when you were five, so I wasn’t sure if you would, I’m glad that you do. Anyway, she told me a story once when I was maybe your age. I didn’t put much stock in it, but with Alexandre’s situation it might fit.”

“Why did you doubt the story in the first place?” Alexandre asked.

“Mom considered herself a bit of a historian, but really she was more of a storyteller. A lot of her stories were as fanciful as any legends or tall tales you heard growing up, just about werefolk instead of humans.”

Alexandre shook his head. “To be fair, werefolk were just made up stories to me until about a month ago.”

“I suppose you got me there.” she chuckled. “Anyway, the story was about a young werefurred-dragon, and how their two halves, Lucien and Lorress, would meet in their dreams.”

“Sounds familiar.” Élise said with a slight nod, “What else was in the story?”

“Well, some of Lorress’s features would bleed over to the waking world when Lucien would awaken. In the story they would fade over the course of the day.”

“Let’s hope that’s true.” Alexandre said as he looked down at the small chest pushing out the top of his robe.

“I’ll have to wrack my brain over the story a bit more, but I need to get to the morning chores.”

“I have to get going before I’m late too. Thanks for the info, grandma, we’ll check back in later tonight.”

“Alright dear, and try to stay calm about all of this, Alexandre, bye for now.” The call ended.

Alexandre sighed. “Hard to stay calm when you wake up like this.”

“Are you kidding? I would have loved to wake up with a pair of boobs.” Élise smiled.

“You know what I mean. I wonder if they will go down before my first class?” he reached for his mug of tea.

“Don't worry about it. Just borrow one of my bras and wear a baggy sweatshirt, no one will know.”

Alexandre glared at Élise over his mug of tea, but she just smiled in return.

***

The physical changes to Alexandre’s body faded over time. When he left for class, a baggy shirt was enough to hide the changes. By the time Alexandre made it back to his apartment he had returned to normal, or at least the normal for him now. Élise was already in his apartment waiting for him to return, sitting at his kitchen table.

“Hey,” she looked up from her phone and a pile of notes. “Are you feeling ok?”

“I think so, everything is back to what it was last night.” He patted his once again flat chest. “What are you working on?”

“I’ve been texting my family, seeing what people remembered about Mémé’s stories. I was then checking out some info I could find online.” Élise motioned to her phone.

Alexandre pulled out a chair and sat next to her. “Are there resources for werefolk online?”

“Not exactly.” Élise closed a notebook. “I was checking some things in everyday history and geography. We’ll have to go to a library and look up some things in our section.”

“Wait, our library has a section for people like us?”

“Most do, you just need to know how to ask.” she smiled.

Alexandre blinked. “You’re serious?”

“Of course, it’s always been like that. We never put stuff online because it’s too easy for humans to stumble across it. Instead we set up hidden collections of information in public libraries. You just have to say the right things, to the right librarian.”

“Oh, wow, ok…I guessI still have a lot to learn.”

“Yeah, but you've just been one of us for a month, we’ll get you there.” Élise smiled as she started to gather up her notes. “We should get to the library, I think they close early tonight.”

“Let me drop off my books first.” Alexandre said as he put his backpack on the table.

They headed out and after a short bus ride they arrived at the small town library. They hurried in from the cold and dusted the snow off their shoulders in the foyer before entering the building proper. Alexandre looked around the old building. It had been a long time since he was last here. He tended to rely on the internet for his research needs. Alexandre leaned in close to Élise.

“So, what next?”

“We find a worker who isn’t human.” she whispered back.

This was a fact of his life that Alexandre was still getting used to. It was hard to put into words the feeling he would get when seeing someone that wasn’t human. He had no idea what kind of werefolk they were, but they stood out like a lamp in a dark forest to him. After looking around the reception area they noticed a woman pushing a cart laden with books. They approached her and Alexandre let his girlfriend do the talking.

“Excuse me.” Élise said in a soft voice.

The woman stopped pushing her cart. “Yes?”

“I’m sorry to bother you, but I’m wondering where any books on Aconitum Argentum would be, if you had any.”

Alexandre noticed the woman looked around quickly, checking if anyone else was around before answering. “Yes, I can show you, just let me park the cart out of the way.”

Élise nodded and turned to her boyfriend with a smile. They were led away from the reception and through the shelves to a plain unmarked door. The worker used a key to open the door for them and flicked on the light. The room was lined with shelves. There was a small table with a pair of chairs and something Alexandre hadn’t seen in real life before, a card catalog.

Please be mindful of the door, it is set up to lock when the door is closed. Also, please make sure you turn off the light when you’re finished.”

“Thank you, we will.” Élise replied with a smile.

The library worker closed the door as she left.

“That was kind of cool, like a spy movie or something.” Alexandre said as he slipped off his backpack and placed it on the table.

Élise giggled. “I guess it would feel like that for you. You get used to things like that after a while.”

“I don’t think I’ll ever get used to being a werefurred-dragon. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s such a big deal.” he scanned the shelves nearby. “So what exactly are we looking for?”

“A book on legends and folktales. My aunt mentioned it to me.” Élise walked up to the card catalog and pulled out a drawer.

Alexandre watched as she flicked through the small cards. “This would be so much faster with a computer.

“I told you we keep these things off-line. Besides, it’s a small enough section, why bother setting up a computer back here?” She scanned through the cards. “Ah, here it is! Stack seven, shelf eight.”

“What’s the title?” he asked as he moved to the labeled set of shelves.

“Canadian Were Legends.”

“Found it.” Alexandre started to pull thick leather bound volume from the shelf.

“Wait, mark it with something,” she ran over and slipped a note card into the shelf. “It makes it easier to put it back when we’re done.”

“Good idea.” He said as he pulled the book the rest of the way out from the shelf.

Alexandre looked at the book. Obviously it was old, he could smell the age on the paper as he opened it up to the title page.

Élise looked over his shoulder and pointed to an entry on the table of contents. “There, The Tale of Lucien and Lorress.”

“Right.” He quickly flipped to the indicated page. “Here it is.”

“Let’s sit down, it’ll be easier than reading it standing up.”

Alexandre nodded and they took their seats at the small table. They paged through the story.

“This sounds so much like what happened to me last night, right down to waking up with boobs.” Alexandre said with a slight smirk.

“Just because it’s a legend doesn’t mean it’s complete BS. Hey, look at this.” she pointed to a detailed drawing on one of the pages.

It looked like some kind of stone or ceramic disk. There was a hole in the center and markings were etched into it all along the circumference. Below The picture it was titled: The Amulet of the Dark Moon

“Sounds spooky.” Alexandre said as he stared at the page.

Élise chuckled and shook her head. “The Dark Moon just means a lunar eclipse.”

“That still sounds a little spooky.”

Élise smirked at first, but changed to a thoughtful expression. “I’ve heard that things can get wonky during an eclipse of the full moon.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, Dad told me his cousin and their other half got switched, so the furred dragon was in charge of the human body until the next moon when things sorted back out. According to dad it freaked out both halves. Actually, there’s probably a few stories in here about things happening on a dark moon.”

“What about a solar eclipse? Does anything happen then?”

“Strangely enough, no, not that I’ve ever heard.” Élise shrugged her shoulders and continued to read the story.

“Wait…did I read this right?” Alexandre pointed to a passage. “With the amulet Lucien could shift to Lorress without a full moon.”

“That’s what it says. Also Lorress could stay out as long as she was wearing the amulet.”

“Kind of like if a male gets knocked up they stay as a furred-dragon until they have the kid?”

“Yeah. I can see there being an issue maintaining the veil with something like that, if it’s real.”

Élise took a picture of the drawing with her phone and started to take a bunch of notes on the story. Alexandre continued to read, growing more invested as he did. His eyes widened as he grew to the end of the tale.

“What the hell?” he said under his breath.

“Hmm?” Élise looked up from her notebook, “What is it?”

“It’s the end of the story, what Lucien and Lorress did. They…they combined.”

“What do you mean combined?”

Alexandre pushed the book towards his girlfriend. “Just read.”

Élise put down her pen and picked up where she had left off in the story. A few moments later she looked up from the book.

Élise shook her head, “Ok, that can't be real. There’s no way. I mean, I’ve heard about the unicorn before but…”

Alexandre’s eyes went wide. “There are wereunicorns?”

“What? No, not an actual unicorn.” She rubbed her eyes, tired from the research. ” A unicorn is someone who doesn’t have another half. It’s rare as hell, maybe only one or two showing up a generation.”

“Oh, I get it, as rare as a unicorn. But if that can happen, is it really impossible for the two halves to become one?”

“Alexandre, even if it was possible, and I’m not saying it is, why would that matter to you?”

“I don’t know exactly.” He looked down at the book. “As upset as I was about waking up the way I did, I started to kind of like it after a while. It felt a little disappointing when they faded away. Does that sound weird?”

“I, I don’t know. I’ve never shared a dream with Tierlin before, maybe that was the start of things with you like it was for Lucien in the story.”

“Maybe.” Alexandre drummed his fingers on the desk as he thought. “Do you think that amulet is real?”

“I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me being crazy, butI get a feeling there’s something to it, even if it isn’t exactly a magic amulet.” She flipped to the back of the book and looked at its own bibliography. “Maybe they have a few of the books here so we can check for clues.”

“Good idea.”

***

Alexandre and Élise lost track of time in the back room. They were startled when the library worker from before opened the door, telling them the building was about to close for the night. Sheepishly, they packed up their things to leave. She then walked them out of the building and into the night.

“No wonder I’m so hungry.” Alexandre said as he put up his hood. “We’ve been at this for hours.”

“Time flies.” Élise chuckled, “let’s get something to eat first before heading home.”

Alexandre wasn’t going to argue. There was a pizza shop that was open until midnight and they ended up choosing that for dinner. Other than the man behind the counter they were alone. Alexandre stared out the window. Valixia took the opportunity to speak up.

“You seem a little distant, are you alright?”

“I’m just thinking, Valixia.” He mentioned her name so Élise would realize who he was speaking to.

“Yes, well, you’re not the only one. I wonder what it would be like to just come out whenever.” She rubbed her chin as she thought about it. “If I could be out during the day, I could go sunbathing.”

“It’s winter, in Canada, you’ll have a hard time with that.”

Valixia rolled her eyes. “Obviously I meant in the summer, you butt.”

A smile cracked Alexandre’s face at that.

“What are you two talking about?” Élise asked, looking up from her phone.

“Valixia was wondering what it would be like to be out whenever with the amulet.”

“Ah, that explains it. Tierlin was thinking along similar lines.”

“It’s kind of unfair if you think about it, they only get one night a month to be out while we get all the rest.”

Élise tilted her head slightly to the side. “I’m kind of surprised to hear this coming from you of all people.”

“I know I acted like a jerk at first, to you and Valixia. It’s just…it’s so hard being two of us stuck together. I don’t want to lose Valixia, she’s important to me, but being two people isn’t easy.”

“Being two people…” Élise drummed her fingers on the table. “I never thought of it like that, but I guess it’s true.”

“If the legend is to be believed, I think that’s how Lucien felt too.”

“Maybe, ah hold on, they’re bringing out our food.”

A large pizza and an order of onion rings were dropped off at their booth. They both went for a slice and ate quietly for a few moments. After washing down the first slice with his soda Alexandre sighed and decided to share more of how he was feeling.

“I’m worried about living like this. I don’t want to lose you, but I'm afraid. It’s so damn hard being two people at once. Maybe it’s because you were born like this, maybe it was growing up around your family that prepared you for this. But I really worry that I can’t handle it, and I’m going to let you and Valixia down.” Alexandre glanced back at his reflection before looking down at the table.

“Wow, babe…why didn’t you say something to me?” Élise reached across the table and took his hand. “I thought you were adjusting to it.”

“At first I was. But this last week…It’s not your fault,” he turned and spoke to his reflection. “I just feel this, ah how do I put it, a fear I’m going to break down. I think that’s why Valixia came in my dream to comfort me last night. I know she loves me, and I love her too, but that’s just one more person to let down if I break.”

They ate in silence once again until Élise spoke up.

“Do you think if you could somehow let Valixia have more time in charge that would help things?”

Alexandre shrugged. “I don’t think it could hurt things, at the very least.”

“And is there anything else you’re planning, assuming all of this is real?”

“Honestly, as much as reading it shocked me, I can’t stop thinking about the ending.”

“You mean how Lucien and Lorress merged together.” it wasn’t phrased as a question.

“Yeah. it shocked me at first but as I've thought about it…I can start to understand why they chose to do it.” he said before reaching for another slice of pizza.

“I’m not going to lie, it worries me hearing all of this. But it’s also partly my responsibility, I pulled you into this life.”

“Don't talk like that. It only reminds me how much of a jerk I was in the beginning. Besides, if you hadn’t done it, I never would have met Valixia.”

Élise sighed and reached for an onion ring. She waited until she was finished before speaking again.

“Alexandre, before I say anything more, I know there's more than a fair chance this is all just pure fiction. But, if it can help you in any way to deal with your life now I’m willing to help you in tracking down this artifact.”

“Really?”

“Yeah really, though even if we find the amulet, it might be nothing more than a fancy paperweight.”

“We could write a book about it and get it placed in the hidden libraries at least.” Alexandre smiled softly.

“Yeah, maybe.” she smiled back.

***

In between their time spent at school and work Alexandre and Élise focused on tracking down The Amulet of the Dark Moon. The only break they took was on the night of the full moon. Valixia and Tierlin had other plans for the evening besides combing through books and looking at maps. The morning after the moon Élise woke up first. As cozy as it was in the bed, she had a desperate need for the bathroom. When washing her hands Tierlin was waiting there for her, as always.

“Did you have a good time last night?” Élise asked as she let the water warm up a bit.

Tierlin smirked. “You know the answer to that. Valixia is a hell of a lover.”

“Yeah she is. So is Alexandre.”

“He’s not bad, for a human.”

They both shared a smile. As Élise scrubbed her hand under the warm water, she looked back up at the mirror.

“What do you think about what we’ve been doing lately?”

“You mean looking for that artifact?” Tierlin shrugged. “I don’t know. I admit it might be fun to be out during the day for once.”

“I’ll bet, but that’s not the reason Alexandre and Valixia really want to find it, is it?”

“I suppose not.” Tierlin sighed. “But you’re helping them to find it, aren’t you?”

“There’s a big chance it doesn’t exist at all, and an equally big chance if it does exist it’s just a hunk of rock.”

“True, but what if it’s not?” Tierlin leaned forward. “And what if they go through with it?”

“I don’t know. Sometimes I wonder if I ever should have brought Alexandre in.”

“He’s not an idiot, you couldn’t have stayed his girlfriend without him figuring it out. Let alone if you two are ever going to be anything more.

“I think something inside him broke when he started to share space with Valixia. I thought if he just accepted and embraced her they would get better.”

“I can’t blame you, I thought they would too. That’s probably where Lucien and Lorress’ story came from. Even if it’s just fiction, it was probably inspired by someone in the same position as Alexandre.”

“You’re probably right.” she sighed, “I want him and Valixia to be happy, but are we losing them both if they go through with it?”

“It depends on how you look at it.”

“I guess.” Élise put her hand over her growling stomach. “I’m too hungry from last night to think about this right now.”

“I’m not going anywhere, go get a box of cereal or something.”

Élise nodded and turned to leave the bathroom. I’ll just have to see where all of this leads us, I guess.
