Final Chapter:

Ever After

Arbane was astride on a white horse as he led the bulk of the forces to the battlefield. The Grand High Elf was clad in his robes and armor as Buddy, riding on the feral formed Teroso was on his heels. Scores of elven archers, mages, and warriors followed behind. "Arbane," the golden jackal, who wore only an archer's loincloth and his pellet belt, called to the elder male as the unicorns metal shoes clanged on the ground. "Are you sure that Nathan and the others can go at it alone?" The leader of the elves remained silent for a moment before replying, "They will. We can only believe that at this point."

While me, Hachiko, and Decland were on our way back to the palace of the guardians, we hid behind some rocks as we saw the rabbit guarding the large doors of the palace. "How do we get in?" I said turning to Decland

"I'm not sure..." Decland tried to think. Hachiko spoke up. "That's the rabbit that attacked us a few days ago. We know that he's fast and vampiric, so we need to take him out before he sees us."

Then, Decland got an idea. "Hachi, can you go feral and find me some garlic flowers and wolfs bane?" he asked.

Hachiko nodded and dashed away in his feral form. He returned after a few minutes with the plants in his muzzle.

"Now for the right spell," Decland replied before he said a few words and turned invisible. While he was unseen, he carefully placed the garlic and wolf's bane around the rabbit, trapping the vampire inside the circle, for he knew that vampires were very fearful of garlic and wolfs bane. Suddenly, the rabbit began to panic and then a stake appeared and stabbed the rabbit in the heart, destroying the vampire entirely.

The ocelot reappeared with a glow on his green amulet. The Akita quickly ran to the doors and lightly pushed it open just enough to look in.

I turned to Hachiko. "Maybe you better stay out here, just in case," I said. The Akita nodded, and then I and Decland entered. The halls were in ruins but we could hear music being played. The doors to the throne room opened on their own accord and there was a fox playing a mandolin (Music being played: ) The fox stopped playing and looked up with a calm expression. "Oh, company," he said and then slowly stood up. "I think I'll put on something more.. appropriate. Come with me.. You're cat friend can stay here," he beckoned to me. The fox led me to a chamber that had mirrors covering the floor, walls and ceiling. "My underlings call me sir.. my name is Prince Langwidawn, but you may call me 'Your Highness'," the fox said haughtily.

He then approached a small area that looked like cabinets with several cupboards. In each cabinet sitting behind a glass cupboard door, there were several masks that were perched on head dummies. He approached an empty one and using a key that was tied to his right hand, he unlocked it and opened it. "I think No. 6 will do for this afternoon," the prince said as he reached up and held his head. Then he twisted his head to the left and there was a click. Suddenly, the fox's head was removed from the body and placed into the cupboard. Then the body closed the door and walked over to another cupboard numbered "6". Using the key on his right hand, the prince opened the cabinet to reveal the head of a Doberman. The body held the head in its hands and turned to me, making me gasp suddenly. "What do you think?" asked the Doberman.

"I.. I think you're handsome," I stammered.

"I should hope so," retorted the Doberman head as it continued, "And just who might you be and what are you doing here?" Then, the prince lifted the head above his shoulders as he fitted the head into place, and he turned it to the right to fasten it in.

Hachiko stood guard on the outside of the door and kept his senses on alert for anyone approaching. Suddenly, a force knocked him to the ground from behind. The blue and white fur quickly stood and raised his claw blades to block a second strike from the assailant, the bull he and the other's clashed with before. The black, vampiric bovine snorted and said "I saw the trick you used to take out my partner, but that won't work on me. I've built up immunity to such pitiful plants. "They can't be that pitiful if they can snuff out your kind by mere proximity," Hachiko retorted to the bigger, brawnier man as he barely managed to hold back his attack. Decland was running to the door when he was forced back by an invisible barrier. "Ah! That hurt." He managed to stand before he heard laughter from inside the throne room. "Well, isn't this ironic. The classic game of cat and mouse is reversed." A red mouse with rounded ears stepped from behind one of the thrones. "You've left yourself and your prince to your own demises. Thanks so much for saving us the trouble." He sneered at the spotted feline.

Meanwhile, in the hall of heads, Langwidawn examined me carefully. "You look rather attractive in some way. Not at all handsome, you understand, but you have a certain charm.. different from my other heads." Then, he narrowed his eyes. "I believe I'll lock you up in the dungeon for a few days until your head is ready.. and then I'll take it." I pulled away. "I believe you will not." But then the prince clamped on some metal cuffs over my hands and chained me to the ground. "DECLAND HELP!" I cried as I saw the prince go back to his cabinets to change heads again.. only this time, he was going to a cabinet with a mirror set into it instead of transparent glass. "Not many people know what I originally looked like; but, as for you, see for yourself!" the prince roared as he turned around to face me () I took one good look at that face and screamed.

Hachiko jumped backward, causing the bull to fall forward, before leaping at the giant tower of muscle in an attempt to slash through the bovine's neck. However, the adversary dodged the attack and punched the Akita in the stomach sending him into the door and smashing through into the throne room, where the spotted youth was in a spell casting battle with the rodent sorcerer.

Decland was managing to defend himself with a clear, shining barrier against the violet mass of lightening that the mouse was sending his way. "Hachi, are you ok?" "I'm fine, just worry about keeping your shield up!" Upon hearing the scream of the captured royal, they screamed in unison, "NATHAN!"

I tried breaking loose of the chains; but, suddenly, I saw a ball on a nearby table. I rushed over to it as fast as I could. "NO! NO! NO!" Langwidawn gasped, "If the Snow King gets out, Exortos will have my heads for this." I saw inside the crystal ball was my father. "Break the glass," he seemed to be saying. I grabbed it with my tail and slammed it into the ground. Prince Langwidawn watched in horror as a snow storm took place out of the broken glass. "Oh no! NOOOOOOO!" he cried as he became frozen in solid ice. "Never again will you ever threaten anyone's life. There shall be no escape for you... EVER!" a voice said as the prince was being frozen.

Just then, the feline narrowed his gaze and transformed his barrier into a reflecting one and angled it upward slightly so that the shocking blast redirected to the bull, frying him to a crispy husk. Using the cover, the hunting dog ran past Decland and quickly impaled the rodent with three blades of his broad claws. Then, they both rushed to the next room, just in time to see the headhunter freezing over.

All of a sudden, my chains fell off and, I ran into Hachiko's open arms and hugged him and Decland tightly.

The two protectors held their prince tightly. Decland's eyes noticed a figure in long, flowing white robes and crown with blue gems. "Nathan...Is that?"

"Father?" I gasped, and he looked at me and smiled as he nodded yes.

Suddenly, there were some murmurs and out of nowhere, people started to come out and there was one headless statue without a head but in a flash of light, it appeared with its head and was alive to. It was a young elf, and he looked around bewildered and confused. "Where am I?" he asked.

The boy looked to be about the same age as Nathan and was dressed in a green tunic with a white sash. The fair skinned lad looked into the dragon's eyes. "Where is my father?"

"It's a long story," I said. Then, I looked at my father and ran into his open arms.

Hachiko lifted the boy in his arms and carried him as Decland followed.

I hugged my father tightly as tears flowed down my cheeks. "Father, I missed you so much," I sobbed.

"Shhhh... it's alright. I'm here now," the icy ruler said, "And I'm proud of you, my son. You were brave enough to face those dangers with your friends beside you and now, I think it's time that I and the other guardians helped you with the battle." I smiled and saw the other guardians approach.

Meanwhile at the battle, things were not going so well. Exortos was using his wand to turn any person that would confront him into stone.

Toro, the reptilian tyrant's most loyal follower was tearing through any forces that approached him. The eight foot tall, vampiric, blue bull swung around his giant mace and advanced well ahead of the Black Serpent. A gigantic fireball came from nowhere and blasted him back a few feet; however, the damage was minimal. He looked up to see Teroso, now in his anthro form, standing before him. "Go," he said addressing the troops. "I'll handle him." The elven forces scattered quickly to allow the unicorn room. "Buddy, I mean you too." The short jackal stood behind his cherished equine. "I'm not leaving you."

"You have too," Teroso said as he fought the bull.

Buddy reluctantly retreated but then he caught sight of Exortos turning some elves into stone. Then, the sorcerer walked slowly towards Teroso with his wand in his hand. The jackal pulled out a small dagger and ran towards the Black Serpent. Teroso was winning and just as he knocked the bull to the ground, he heard Buddy yell as the jackal jumped in front of Exortos, who then jabbed his wand towards Buddy, but the jackal side-stepped the wand and then sent his dagger crashing down upon the wand, breaking it and destroying its power. Exortos was so angry that he maneuvered the dagger out of Buddy's hand and with the sharp broken end of his wand, stabbed the jackal in the chest, wounding him. Buddy gasped and fell to the ground, still alive but badly wounded.

The muscular unicorn punched the bull with his magic-infused, gauntlet-covered hoof and sent his enemy flying into a nearby bolder from the momentum. He heard Buddy's scream and ran as fast as he could to aid his wounded lover. The teenage canine screamed in pan and dropped the dagger as the black-scaled one pressed harder into the boy's tiny frame. "You insssssignificant little wassssste of a man. Did you really think you could ssssstop me by ssssimply breaking my wand!?" He looked furiously down at the adolescent, who was managing not to pass out from the pain.

Suddenly, just as Exortos was about to ram a sword into Buddy's heart, Teroso swung his fist at the sword, knocking it out of the sorcerer's hand. But Exortos suddenly transformed himself into a giant snake, and he thrust his head forward and snapped at Teroso, missing him by two inches.

The black reptile reared his giant head back and attempted to go after the wounded canine. The unicorn stepped in front of him and used his physical strength to hold the giant serpent's head back and jaw open.

Buddy managed to stand and weakly brandish his slingshot in his paw.

Just then there was a bright light on the horizon and everyone looked and saw a white figure in a white, glittering robe and jeweled crown. "The Snow King? That's impossible!!" the Black Serpent hissed.

Seizing the moment of distraction, Buddy took a sharp stone and slung it from his slingshot. The pointed and grinded rock pierced on the giant snake's eye and caused him to Rear upwards in immense pain.

The snake snarled as he was about to lunge at both Teroso and Buddy when suddenly the Snow King came soaring in with a sword in hand and cut off the monster's head, letting fall to the ground dead.

The snake's body writhed as it fell to the barren battlefield and caused the area to shake. Then, the disembodied head struggled against the encroaching palm of Death. "Thisss can't be it....I've come ssssso closssse." His one good eye fought against the siren song of eternal sleep, but soon it closed, and the head was motionless.

The Snow King walked over to Buddy and healed the jackal's wounds. I watched as Teroso rushed over to Buddy and hugged him tightly as they shed tears of joy.

The Snow King spoke in a soft manner. "This will help prevent the wound from spreading and infecting, but you really should seek assistance for you wound, young pup." "Y-Yes, your Highness!" Buddy exclaimed in a thankful tone. Decland and Hachiko joined the other two protectors, and the ocelot begins dispensing medical magic. The Winter Ruler turned to his dragonic offspring and caressed his cheek. "My son, you and your protectors have done well. It is now time for me and the other protectors to eradicate the rest of the Black Serpent's forces. After placing a gentle kiss on Nathan's forehead, Jack Frost levitated in the sky and rejoined his forces on the battlefield.

After several battles, I stood with Arbane's son when suddenly the boy stood up and ran to a battered elf. "FATHER!!!" he cried out and ran into the elf's arms.

The Grand High Elf embraced his boy atop of a hill that overlooked the continuing battle. "Dirion, my son!" Arbane brought his shaking, battle-scarred arms around his child and held him close. Then, three red were cats jumped over the hill in an attempt to slice the two elves Arbane turned to defend his son, but his legs gave way and he fell to the ground. Hachiko sliced through one of the beasts, as Teroso struck the other two with lightening form his horn. At the prince's command Decland rushed to perform first-aid magic on the elder male while Buddy, fully healed from his chest wound, fired explosive pellets at the bottom of the ill to kill any other advancing monsters.

I looked around and saw there was no one left. "We won the battle!" I cheered and everyone cheered as well

Weeks later, the sun peaked over the hills and shined into the towers of the newly rebuilt castle of the guardians. Nathan and Arbane, with Dirion between them, awoke at dawn to start a most busy and joyous of days for them.

My eyes fluttered open, and I kissed Arbane's forehead. "Morning, my love," I whispered softly.

The elder elf sat up in bed before leaning into kiss the dragon's cheek. "Are you ready for today, my cherished prince?"

"I've been looking forward to it ever since you gave me this engagement ring," I chuckled and kissed the elf's lips.

The fair skinned man smiled and gazed at the dragon with his blue eyes. "Our marriage today; your coronation tomorrow; my retirement ceremony the day after...Our honeymoon will have to wait."

"Of course... and then you, me, and Dirion will be a family," I said happily

"And what of your protectors?"

"They'll be married too," I said, "and then maybe we can bring their families here to live... just as a surprise and a wedding present."

"I think that would be a lovely present." He looks at the grandfather clock at the other side of the room. "It's time to get ready."

I nod and kiss Dirion's cheek. "Time to get up, sweetheart," I whispered softly.

The young elf begins to stir. "Papa...is today the day?"

"Yes it is, son," Arbane said hugging his boy tightly.

The hall was filled with spectators for the occasion. Elves, ferals, and anthros of all hides attended the wedding. Then, Arbane stood in between Hachiko and Teroso as the three men, all dressed in elven ceremonial robes, awaited their young lovers. With them, stood the Spring Mare, the designated giver of blessings for weddings in the world.

I entered wearing a white robe, and Decland and Buddy followed behind me.

The ocelot and jackal were in the same robes. At the foot of the long, golden carpet leading to the alter, the king of winter waited to take his son by the claw and give him away. This would be his first act as a father to his treasured offspring.

Once everyone was in place, the ceremony began. We all said our vows and then Spring said, "By the powers vested in me, I now pronounce you mates for life. You may kiss the groom."

Decland stood on his tiptoes and kissed the muscular Akita, and Teroso lifted Buddy to his muzzle as they shared a passionate kiss.

Then, I wrapped my arms around Arbane as he dipped me in his own arms and kissed me like never before.

The crowd cheered for the three couples and joyous echoes of hope sounded in the halls of the throne room. The three couples were now in a huge bedroom full of food, wine, and beds.

"Oh, I almost forgot. Decland, Buddy, I want you and Hachi to follow me outside. I have a surprise," I said winking at Arbane, for I had already sent him on ahead to fetch Decland and Buddy's parents.

The teens and the hound followed the prince, and were astonished by what they saw. Their parents were standing in the courtyard with expressions of joyous cheer at their reunion. The boys embraced their families and spent the next few hours talking and sharing their adventures. Hachi took his feral form and nuzzled with his own mother by a warm fireplace.

"I always knew that you and Hachi belonged together... but I never expected this," Decland's step-mother said in astonishment as she looked at the palace she was at.

Decland looked upon the feral Akita and smiled lovingly. Buddy, introduced the burly unicorn as his new mate to his parents.

I was so glad to see everyone so happy. I hugged Arbane and rested my head on his shoulder.

"My prince," Teroso said, "Do you have room for four more?"

I smiled and looked at Arbane. "Always," I replied.

The four protectors disrobed from their wedding vestments before crawling into bed. Hachiko and Decland lay beside Nathan as Teroso and Buddy nestled behind Arbane.

"At last, we are all one," I said snuggling with my husband and protectors

The hunting hound nuzzled the ocelot in his arms as the feline addressed the young royal. "Is there anything we can do to make your night any more special, Nathan?"

"Well... Teroso and Hachi can be in their feral forms if they like," I said smiling at the Akita and unicorn.

The two stood and jumped off the bed. Then, transformed in midair and landed on the ground in feral forms. Hachiko's pads silently landed on the ground while Teroso's hooves clopped and echoed in the room.

The prince rested well on that night as he had dreams about all the possibilities that lay ahead of him. A reunion with his father, a group of loyal friends and lovers, a family, and a land of peace for him to protect. Indeed for him, this is happily ever after.
