Unless jim is the pov character, this is an omniscient statement. it's very easy to do. this only works if you are writing a true omniscient point of view.

Are they omniscient? or are they still stuck in one character's viewpoint? you can also spice up your story by having multiple viewpoints from different characters. just make sure you have some kind of separation between them.
