~DaySix~

Waking up this morning hasn't abolished the mood I fell asleep with. In fact, my thoughts are even darker than yesterday. Waking up to the odour of piss, sweat, rust and old sex surely doesn't help... I am however able to think a bit more clearly. Yet, that fog clouding my brain hasn't left me as I lay here in contemplation. Shane did a real number on my yesterday. I know I should be getting a move on, but my spirits are just so broken that it's taken me hours to even consider it. However, there is one thing I realise while lying motionless in the back of this decrepit kidnapper's van.

I have seen five of the seven predators currently prowling this mountain top. So the conclusion is simple. My hunter is either Flynn or Connor. And that thought alone is both encouraging and terrifying all at once. Because at least I know what I'm up against, but at the same time, now I know what I'm up against.

Connor is an absolute monster. He is something like... Fifty feet tall, I think? And he's built like a shit-brick house to boot. And while the black badger is a little slow on the uptake, at least he won't be able to sneak up on me. He's big, heavy, and pretty slow. I would chuff at the notion of someone like him being a hunter, but I have seen him in action. Connor may be a bit of an idiot, but his size compensates for many things. I doubt he will be able to make out my scent from so high up either. Although... Ethan's cum stench is now mixed with my own piss, sweat, and the blood I coughed up yesterday. Which is pungently evident while I lie here. Not to mention whatever's soaked into my fur through this musty blanket...

The other, more terrifying, possibility is that Flynn is my hunter. And that would be a big problem. A REALLY big problem. He has been the current reigning champion since Ryan's departure after all. I would sooner leap from a cliff than endure whatever cruel fate he would inflict upon me. Agile, smart, crafty, deadly and absolutely silent as a ninja, the naga is a real force to be reckoned with. He is also one of the biggest predators, or well, the longest in the tournament. Flynn stands around ten feet from the ground when propped up, but it's his long snake like body ranges somewhere between twelve metres or so that makes him so imposing. If I'm honest, I'd rather have Connor as my hunter. At least he could just chew me up and end it quickly.

Sighing out, I look to the window where sunlight creeps in, my eyes still dull and listless and my mood still gloomier than an emo without razor blades.

Kyle: "I can't stay here all day..." I say languidly as I get up with a groan. My body is still incredibly sore, and thanks to sleeping in the van, incredibly stiff. My ribs are without a doubt bruised from that crash yesterday. I can feel it with every strained move I make.

Not wasting any more time, I open both doors through a wince and a seething breath before swinging my legs and letting them hang out of the back of the van while I take a moment to look around. Everything seems to be the same as the night before, not that I really scoped the area much after slumping here. Stepping out fully through gritted teeth as I endure the painful movements, I squint my eyes and take in a better look at my surroundings.

Kyle: "Hmm..." I'm on the very edge of this dry, brush like forest, and set in a much livelier thicket of shrubbery. Off in the distance, at the front of the van, is what looks like an open stretch of land. A very much barren part of the mountain if ever I saw one. A flat length of terrain, very similar to the field I was first dumped into but much rougher and eclipsed by clouds that almost seem to be within reach. Hard dry grass, jagged grey rocks and very few dying plants spread for miles and miles on either side. The sight is quite the contrast against the lush forest I first traipsed through.

Kyle: "Going back in there might be the death of me." I say to myself while looking over my shoulder at the forest behind me. Although... I'm kinda scared to just wonder off into what looks like a wasteland as well...

Alright... I think I'll scavenge around this immediate area for a bit and hopefully find something to eat before heading out that way. At least out there in the open fields nothing can sneak up on me... Right?

While searching the area near that van earlier, I came up mostly short on things to eat. I say "Mostly" only because I did end up finding what I assumed to be grub worms. They were just sitting out there in the open as if waiting to be snatched up by a bird. Perhaps it's the lack of wildlife in these mountains that left them so docile? Heh, not that I'm a bird, but I did snatch them up. They tasted like month old oatmeal and warm snot. Like rotten lemons and centuries old wheat paste. But I ate them none the less. Four fat grub worms are better than no food at all.

I now find myself on a dusty foot path through the mountain side. To my left and right are just bushes and dry grass as far as the eye can see. Maybe an occasional cactus ever now and then. It seriously doesn't look like it ends in either direction. A tree or two will pop up every now and then, but it really is just a wasteland up here. There isn't anywhere for me to duck and hide if I spot a hunter, which is concerning... But I really don't have the heart to go back into that forest and decide to just keep traveling west.

I've been keeping my eyes peeled for grasorum as I walk along, for I know they like a lot of light, it's the only plant I've been able to find up here that's edible after all. But so far, I've come up short on anything other than spikey bushes and twiggy plants. The sun is also a lot hotter out here without the trees to protect me, something that only becomes worse the longer I stumble forward. And after another hour or so of trekking through this arid path, I really start to regret leaving the shaded brush of the forest. But just as I'm thinking this, I spot something red... Something that stands out amidst all this dry brush.

Kyle: "Is that..." Leaving the path, I plod through the interwoven clumps of grass and towards what catches my eye, and as I draw close enough to make it out properly, my heart rockets into my throat.

Kyle: "N-no way!" I dash madly through the brush and come to a skidding halt in front of the plant. Crouching down, I raise up one of the red orbs and feel tears threatening to breach my eyes.

Kyle: "T-tomatoes??" I begin inspecting the plant carefully, making sure it isn't just something that looks like tomatoes. I know there are a few poisonous plants that look similar. But as I scrutinize the red orb, everything appears as it should in a store-bought tomato. Using one of my blunt claws, I rip into one of the vivid orbs and examine its innards. The sight of its juicy liquid dripping from my fingers onto the dry dirt has my mouth salivating, but I restrain myself long enough to take one last ide sniff that reinforces my original conclusion. And I waste no time in shoving the entire thing inside my mouth!

Oh my fuuuuck~! In a few quick chews, I swallow down the succulent vegetable and begin a ravenous consumption of eating tomato after tomato! The ripe red orbs don't even taste sour. I've never had such sweet tomatoes!

I annihilated the poor bush in a matter of minutes, robbing it of all its delectable bearings, feeling invigorated by their flavour and the fulfilment of actually having something inside my stomach. This is the first REAL food I have had in four days, and it tastes like manna from heaven! They are so sweet and juicy that before I knew it, I have eaten all ten of the ripe tomatoes.

Searching the plant over, I find a few more, unripe green ones, and eat them too. They aren't nearly as satisfying, but it doesn't stop me from moaning as I swallow the last one down. As I finish, I sit back on my ass and lick my paws clean of the juices while smacking my lips in utter delight.

Kyle: "Th-that was just the pick-me-upper that I needed~" I already feel renewed, and not just physically, but mentally too. I feel refreshed and even more invigorated than the morning after I slept with Ethan!

Kyle: "Alright." I say to myself with resolve while getting to my feet before covering my eyes with a sticky paw and squint into the distance.

I can make out some more trees at the base of, what I assume to be the highest point in the mountains out here, right at the very end of this field. I doubt there is any way for me to scale it, but that forest near the base is my best bet of continued survival. I have to keep heading that way. Not only will the mountain offer me partial shade, but the trees over there will bring me cover. It was a really stupid idea to come out here. I can see that now that I'm thinking properly. I'm out in the open, completely defenceless and anyone can see me for miles. I'm practically a sitting duck! But I can't completely blame myself. My mood was so dark that it felt as if I were walking through a dream half the time. But I guess it's worked out in the end seen as I found those tomatoes.

Dusting the dirt and grass off my legs and paws, I look once more to the barren tomato bush with a grateful smile on my face.

Kyle: "Thank you little guy. You may have just saved my life."

A few hours pass by as I walk with much more pep in my step. Until the sun eventually starts to set in the distance. It would seem I wasted most of my morning laying in that damn van and now it's almost night again.

Kyle: "Shit..." There isn't much in the way of cover out here... These bushes are far too small for me to hide beneath and will look way too sketchy if I pile them together... Taking a moment to look around properly, I spot a lone tree. Maybe if I lay some branches on the side it might look natural? I could maybe use some bushes too and it could still appear unrevealing. Walking up to the tree, I look around the immediate area, kicking the dirt and prodding a few of the bushes as I hum to myself.

Kyle: "Hmm... A little harder than what I'm used to, but this will have to do.

I decide to get started on building my makeshift hideout here for the night. I've covered a decent amount of ground today, despite my tardiness. I should be able to make it to the base of the mountains by late afternoon tomorrow if I pace myself. I need to reserve what energy I have left for that. Grabbing a reasonable sized bush, I yank it out form the earth and get to work.

It takes me a while longer than I intended in order to make my hideout look natural. The bushes out here are less condensed than in the lust forest I took for granted, and I could tell right away it looked fake. But finally, I made something reasonably big and fairly inconspicuous.

Digging into the earth a bit with a branch and my claws, I made a little coyote shaped trench and set a single bush on one side. It looks decent and as I climb into the little hole between the trunk and the shrub, I cover myself with a twiggy branch and look up to the starry sky.

Kyle: "Tomorrow will be better." I monologue, actually believing the words this time I will make it to that mountain and find my way down from there. Closing my eyes, I allow myself to drift off to sleep. My thoughts stirring with the hope that something better awaits me in the morning. Maybe even more tomatoes or better yet, water! perhaps even my freedom from these predators...
